Ruger LCP ll 380?

I'm thinking of purchasing the Ruger LCP ll 380. For easier carry. I carry a Taurus 9mm G2S or a Taurus 38 short barrel. Both are too much weight for warm weather carry. I don't plan on spending hours at the range with the 380. But I'm hearing they are no longer made and off the market. Does anyone know if this is true? If so, Why?

What about the older Ruger 380? Does anyone have experience using one?

They periodically refine the design and give it a new name.

I have an LCP II and love it.

I have fired an original LCP and the trigger on that left quite a bit to be desired.

I believe there is a new iteration, LCP custom or max maybe. Not sure what the difference between the II and the custom is.

I have a ruger LCPII as well and I love it for what it is. It shoots well and I’m accurate with it and yes it is easy to carry but INO it’s hard to draw it. The frame is so thin it’s hard to deploy IMO. Mags are small and mag well is thin so it’s hard to do mag changes. It has its place but I do not carry it daily. I also feel the .380 round is under powered but it’s better than carrying nothing. I use it periodically while I’m dressed up in a suit but I have switched to a sig 365.

What about the LCP max? Gives you the option of higher capacity and a slightly wider grip that is easier to draw. If you prefer the weight of 6 rounds in the mag instead of 10 you can just load the mag only to 6.

On paper it's not much bigger, but carrying it, the EC9s feels closer to my G26 than my LCP.

Kind of like what Smith has done with the Shield Plus in 9mm, with the 13(?) round capacity (only in Free America, sadly…) As much as I love my Shield .45 as my main EDC, I will definitely be checking out the Shield Plus someday.

My GF’s EDC is the SIG P238 which I just upgraded to an ambi safety, and I have a Kimber Micro Raptor in .380 for those minimal conceal situations (weddings and such). Both are essentially the same gun, only the Kimber is stainless construction.

Extended capacity mags help with getting three fingers on both of them.

LCP Max is my EDC. I wear blue jeans 99% of the time and actually, the little 380 Max fits quite nicely in the small watch pocket of my jeans. Small and very light weight. Easy to forget it's even there. Sometimes too easy.

The LCP Max is a great little pistol. 10+1 of .380 in a pistol smaller than most people's phones. Not too fun to shoot with its tiny sight radius, but it has very good sights and not too snappy.

I have the LCP. Comes with a pocket holster and was on sale at Bass Pro for $212.00. I can easily right front pocket carry it everyday and it's exceptionally easy to conceal. Good for close up work and that is what it is intended for. I always carry 2 extra mags in the back left pocket and 1 in the pipe. As with all Rugers, only buy Ruger mags. I tried some Magpuls that visually looked the same and had to send them back as they would not feed (always check your new mags to make sure they feed before you carry them around, don't assume that they will work). Comes with 6 round mags with finger extension allowing for 2 fingers on the grip/mag (it's a really small gun). Either remove the extension and only have room for 1 finger on the grip or buy the 7 round Ruger mags that allow for 2 fingers on the grip for no additional length over the 6 round with extension. This thing is small, but I have small hands so it works for me. If you have big hands, you probably have bigger pockets and should get a bigger gun. Practice reloads as that full mag does not always easily snap in place. Trigger has a pretty long and stiff pull. So, I got an ultra compact, easy to conceal, reliable, new, inexpensive, 7+1 for everyday carry.

Mass Ayoub does a nice Wilson Combat Channel review of .380 ammo. They recommend a bullet like the Underwood Xtreme Defender to achieve the desired penetration but a bullet like that is expensive and tough to get. I have the Hornady 90 gr Critical Defense Hollow Point for carry ammo as I can easily get that.

I've put 350-400 rounds thru my .380 Max and went bang every time, no issues. As mentioned it does have a short sight radius. Initially some of my shots at 7 yds would go a few inches to the left, me not the gun. Took some practice and concentration for me to get good groups in the center of the target. I got to the point that I could get pretty consistent 2.5 to 3 inch groups, but did have 1 or 3 that went off center a bit sometimes. Overall I'm real happy with the little gun. No "regerts".

I have the LCPII and it’s a good gun for the category. I only carry it in the summer when I wear shorts as a pocket pistol. I did have some issues with it in the beginning with FTEs. I sent it back to Ruger and they replaced almost every part in the gun and there is never a failure. Ruger has excellent customer service.

Thanks to everyone for the info. I did buy the LCP 380 Max. I live in Madison County. I could have gone to get the pistol permit today and then back to the store to pick it up. But the girl in the office who does the permits is on vacation till next week, I'll get the gun Monday. The $11.00 for the background check is bullshit. $9 for the pistol and $2 for two boxes of ammo. Ya, I knew the charges were gonna happen before I made the purchase. But now, after two glasses of bourbon. The extra $11.00 I paid doesn't feel as bad.

My guess is that either people prefer the LCP max or the original LCP. Thus Ruger is probably focusing On just them

Double action only hammer fired vs striker fired. Some people view a long heavy DAO trigger on a carry gun to be a safety feature as it helps to prevent negligent discharge. Same reason why some people find it safer to carry a revolver instead of a semi auto.

another reason is price. The LCP 1 is about $200. The LCP 2 is about $280. The LCP max is about $380. I reckon that people who are very budget minded go for the original. Then you have people who might go for the LCP 2 who figure that since they are already spending more, why not spend a bit more and get the LCP max with better sights and better capacity.

I personally am interested in the LCP1 as it’s a super cheap super slim carry gun. I also am interested in the LCP max as it has way nicer sights and better capacity. I have no interest in the LCP2 as it sort of now occupy a weird middle ground of not cheap enough, but also not feature packed enough.

That's a fair price. Add the cost of a 2nd mag to the KYGUNCO price and the $320 isn't that much more. Plus, if you bought from a local shop it's worth a few bucks to build on the relationship with a local shop.

I carry the II most out of all my pistols. It's good for little trips to the store and such. I have a 7 round ruger mag which is a bit pricey just to get +1 and the 6 rounder it comes with in my pocket. Super light and non printing I carry it with the holster it comes with tucked under my belt. Works perfectly and is super comfortable. It is pretty slim though so I bought a hogue grip. The + seems it would be the same width as the II with a grip on it. Very interested in getting it for the 12+1 capacity. That's alot of fire power in such a small gun. Don't know if the upgraded sights are quite needed on this type of gun but a nice extra.

I got to shoot the custom down in TN shooting some armadillos at night time for pest control. The difference is the trigger. Way better than the original. Possibly even better than the II if you can believe that.
