Ruger LCPII write up

I bought a ruger LcpII a while back and was slacking since it took me a while to shoot it. Well that drought ended yesterday.

First the good. At first glance it’s an attractive little pistol. Feels good in the hand even with the tiny size of the gun, it’s very easy to rack the slide, mags drop free very nicely, and extra mags are not horribly expensive. Rugers pocket holster is nice enough and I throw it in my right pocket and it looks like a wallet. The guns is very small and light so no reason not to carry it ever. It is my dress up gun or when it’s tough for me to carry my compact double stack.

Range time. Suprisingly it shot very well. I’m not the best pistol shooter in the world, but all rounds hit paper at first. The recoil is noticeable, but manageable. I shot about 60 rounds then stopped. No failures of any sort even with hollow points. I got a good amount of bullseyes and sure I pulled a few due to anticipation of recoil.

The bad Well loading the 6 round mags suck. They are not hard to load, but 6 rounds suck. The recoil was not too bad, but I’d mention it here as the bad. The worst part was my finger gets pinched by the trigger and the main reason I stopped shooting it. When pulling back the trigger the skin on my finger gets caught between the bottom of the trigger and the trigger guard. It hurts a good bit honestly. I need to look better at what I’m doing to make adjustments.

Here’s my target fro 20 feet away. Really not bad except the few I pulled. The last set I fired pretty fast so the group opened up, but all on paper. 19 rounds and a good amount of bullseyes.

I have them in a few of my 380's and they have never failed at the range.

I would like to try one out. I have the custom which I know has a much better trigger than the original lcp. I actually like the custom a lot and it was really cheap. If I didn't have it I would def get the lcp 2

I'm in the same boat.. I bought the LCP Custom when it dropped down to $200.. I should have known that meant a new version was coming out. It is fairly accurate for a pocket pistol, though I've noticed after a couple of mags (I know, it is not really meant for 'mag dumping') my trigger finger starts to hurt. I don't normally carry it, but it is nice to have a 'deep concealment' option.

Actually looking to get one of these. It seems people like them enough over the first one that it's worth the update.

I don't have a license yet but am picking up application papers this month with Wayne County. People say in general these little 380 are not good starter pistols but I am okay with that and a fast learner. I have shot .380 a tiny bit in these little things (out of state, of course) and the recoil is indeed pretty stout.

I would not be concerned with buying one as a first pistol. I found mine for $200.00 on line. Easy to take apart, but the takedown pin on the side is pretty flush with the slide. You need a small screwdriver or something to pull it out. I don’t scratch the slide, but I am nervous about it.

I've been watching these and been thinking about adding one to the stable. I'm pretty sure my only way to carry at work will be ankle or boot carry. So this gun seems to fit the right size to do that. Thanks for the write up.

Honestly I have it in my pocket and it looks like a wallet. You would never know it’s a gun.
This picture is tighter dress paints that are light weight. Super light and no printing. This is the pocket holster from ruger. I’m sure you can’t get better ones.

I know I have a smoking ass. The gun is in my right pocket.

LCP 2 is nicer, I shoot it about the same as my custom tho. My custom is not fun to shoot 3-4 mag at most for me. But the custom is a little smaller and lighter which I like.

Sent it back to Ruger, they replaced basically the entire gun, got it back and have only had one failure to eject in about 500 rounds since (mostly FMJ with some JHP). It’s been great now and I trust 95% for carry though I’ve been carrying AIWB subcompact 9s lately.

Also these guys make awesome tritium sights and will refinish your slide, but I’ve been unable to justify paying basically the cost of the gun for it, but one day I might pimp out of my little LCP.

It’s a pretty close quarter gun not that you can’t ahoor it from 20-25 accurately, but it’s unlikely. Maybe if I had a ton of extra cash, but I’m pretty cheap. I will likely paint my sights, at least the front one, orange.

Oh yeah I agree it’s crazy expensive and a luxury purchase. I bought some “GLOW ON” Phosphorescent paint and did the rear and front sights and then covered it with clear nail polish. It isn’t great but works well enough to help differentiate your sights when aiming at a dark surface and stays on alright.

I stumbled upon this company on another forum - Cummings Custom Refinishing and now I kind of want to buy an old, beat-up pistol just to have it refinished..

What colors did you use?

I got the “original” color off of amazon. It’s kind of a tritium greenish hue. I used a toothpick to apply it in as round a shape as I could. I did have to reapply because it somehow completely chipped off the rear left side, but it’s been good since. I’ll upload a picture when I get home tomorrow.
