ruger lcrx opinions

Anyone have a Ruger LCRX with a 3" barrel? Any feedback?

I am debating on one, I "need" another revolver for home/ carry. It would be carried often at my "homestead" in progress. I want to have the first shot as a shot shell for more nuisance rodent type problems and the remaining 4 would be for the larger things. I'd like a 3" barrel for the rear sight and want a hammer for single action. If I am working around the house and run out I can easily rotate the shot shell to the last shot. The weight, barrel length, and sights make that particular model stand out to me. It would be a 38 +p. Just curious if anyone had any feedback on them.

Never owned one, but have 2 Ruger Single-Action revolvers, a Single-Nine and a Super Blackhawk, and have owned numerous others

Looked at the LCRx many times my own self, for a belly gun. Truthfully, I wouldn't hesitate if that's what I was in the market for

My pops has the hammerless l c r in 357 , and I think it's a great Pocket Gun. And while hammers will snag on pockets and whatnot, I prefer to have a hammer and I've considered getting the lcrx myself.

If I was going to use it primarily as a pocket/self defense I'd go hammerless. I'm mainly concerned with chipmunk/ field mice/ rats while I'm working at home outside and would prefer to be able to go single action. It'll most likely be owb holster and if I run out I throw a coat over it.

The LCR pair was lighter and would carry easier but if your actually going to shoot it then the weight of the SP101 helps to mitigate recoil better. The fact that I could pick from different aftermarket sight options and spring kits to customize it swayed me towards the SP101 as well. If you are fine with how it comes and do not need to modify it, and you don’t plan on it shooting much (recoil wise) then the LCR pair are a great option.

Right, but if I load a shotshell in my g19 as the first round, it won't cycle the following round.

I didn't notice a rear sight on the sp101 unless I just missed it. The lcrx was one of the only models I noticed with one which is what drew me to it. I haven't shot or even held one but I wouldn't think the recoil in a 38 would be all that bad. Besides having 38 on had already that is why I didn't want to look at them in 357, I figured that would have a little extra punch for such a lite gun.

Some SP101 models have a gutter sight and some have a rear sight. I have fired a regular LCR as well as a smith air weight in 38 and it wasn’t something I would want to shoot all day. The weight of the SP101 allows me to do so. Just things to bear in mind. Neither option is the perfect option for everybody, hence why both models exist

They make the gun with a feature where you can rack the slide.

I've heard about them, they scare me though.
