Ruger Precision Rimfire]

In the league I shoot in, my current rifle is a Ruger Precision Rimfire. It’s been my league rifle for over 3 years, in those 3 yrs, I’ve finished 2nd, 4th and 3rd in the final standings. The RPRF has been a very reliable and accurate rifle. It’s the 22LR version, with my customary open/iron sights installed. I have the trigger set at about my customary 2# and it very repeatable. The only issue I’ve ever had was it did not like 2 of the BX-1 rotary mags, replace them , problem went away. I like the RPRF so much, I bought a second one.

Did you to the foil tape mod on the action. Def made mine a bit more accurate.

Yep, then took it back out, it made it far worse. It shoots a lot better as the factory sent it, the second one was the same way. I still have one rifle with foil tape, not sure if it shoots any better, but I not going to got through the effort to take it out.

For me, with extensive nerve damage in my right hand, causing severe feeling sensation loss, I need roughly a 2# trigger to be able to feel it, I have no desire for a lighter trigger. I have a Wards Westernfield with roughly an 8 oz trigger, I can’t feel the trigger, so I don’t/can’t shoot it. Changing barrels, which I’ve done on 10/22s and a couple of CZs, to me have been a crap shoot, some were better, some were worse, I have no desire to roll the dice again, the current barrel, at least for me is good enough.

Again a late start today, didn’t wake up to almost 9 am. I got to the range at about 9:30 am, one guy shooting a 9 mm pistol, his first time at the range, first day with the pistol and according to him, the first time he has ever fired a pistol. I stayed as far away as possible. He shot about 30-40 shots, rarely hit the target at 25 feet, he packed up and left. No one else at the indoor range, about 30 people shooting at the Sunday outdoor bench rest session.

Today was a Ruger Precision Rimfire day, I took both of mine

Today I shot CCI AR Tactical, Federal bulk (blue box) and CCI SV

RPRF #1 - shot 200rounds, shot perfectly, no functional issues

RPRF #2 - shot 300 rounds, shot perfectly, no functional issues

CCI AR Tactical - shot perfectly

Federal bulk (blue box) - shot perfectly

CCI SV - shot 200 rounds, shot dismally, very inconsistent, shot gun like patterns. I started with RPRF#1, a perfectly clean rifle, shot 10 targets, 100 rounds, poor results. Switched to RPRF#2, again clean rifle, shot 10 targets, again poor results. Attached are 3 targets, with #2, target A was the best target out of the 10, switched over to the CCI AR and immediately shot target B, then switched over to the Federal and shot target C. None of the targets from #1, with the SV were anywhere close to target A, but had very similar targets, using the CCI AR to B and using the Federal to target C. The results I have withe the 2 RPRFs, are very similar to the results I have with the CCI SV, with the rest of my rifles, except for the Winchester Wildcat, the whole rifle is dismal with all ammo. I have 3 different lots of the SV, bought over a4-5 year span, it’s all very similar, for me it just does not work, I can get and have got better results with Remington Golden Bullets.

Clean up the range and the preliminary clean up of the rifles, got home about 1 pm. I had a good day shooting, except for the CCI SV accuracy issues, but a great day at the range

looks like the CCI-SV is the only lead round you are shooting the others are copper coated, am I correct?

When I start out with a clean barrel with lead rounds it usually takes a number of rounds to start to foul the barrel and the the groups tighten up and I don't clean again till the accuracy falls off again and even then I first just push a clean patch through first or a dry bore-snake.

Target C was after about 90-100 shots, that was the best target I got, CCI SV just does not seem to work for me. The Federal bulk is also a lead bullet, no copper wash, I have no issues with it from a clean, cold barrel, in any rifle.

For a lot of people it seems to, I’ve never found anything remarkable about it, like I said for some reason it doesn’t work for me, like it works for everyone else. I just traded 3000 rounds of it for 3000 mini-mags, both of us are happy.

It’s a long and twisted story, but I now own 7 of the Ruger Precision Rimfires, the last one was used. The previous owner of #7 has replaced the bolt knob with a hideously large fluted bolt knob, I called Ruger today, while it is a simple screw on part, is not available as a part. According to Ruger, I would have to take the rifle to a FFL, have it shipped to Ruger, they would do the repairs, they would then ship it back to the FFL for pick up. As it is an used rifle, I would have to pay the freight both ways, any repair cost and all of the FFL fees, for basically a $3 knob. With an addition of a 3-6 week turn around. I would like all 7 of the rifles the same, my only hope now is finding a used one, do one took off to put a different knob on. Anybody got one, they would part with??I love the rifles, but I’m extremely frustrated by Ruger’s stance. I can buy trigger parts, triggers, firing pins and extractors, but can’t buy a $3 plastic screw on knob.

Measure the thread size and see if you can find an aftermarket replacement that is acceptable.

I found an original knob

Out of a clear blue sky, I received a package from Ruger, enclosed was the replacement knob, the previously said they could/would not send me and a hat. Apparently they changed their minds, no note, no packing slip, just the knob and the hat. I would like to Thank Ruger, it greatly appreciated. I making arrangement to return the used knob that was generously sent to me, by a member of another site.
