Does anyone have any experience with this rifle? Apparently it can be purchased with a 16" or 18" barrel. I'm liking the thoughts of an 18" barrel with a scout scope mounted.
My cousin has one and loves it. I shot it, it's a tack driver for what it is. My only real complaint was it didn't "fit" me well. I just didn't feel right. This is 100% subjective and in no way takes away from it's stellar performance. Also if I remembering correctly taking the bolt out was more cumbersome than most new rifles.
Hi,
for a 308 winchester yes. The ideal length for a short rifle would be 20" although 18" is a reasonable compromise.
It is not that the 16" will not work but those are the inches where the loss of speed are more noticeable.
In terms of the rifle the Savage Scout is hard to beat with the accustock.
but even the hog hunter out of the box that is $430 adding the AI bottom mag if you want is a superior rifle IMO in terms of the action, aftermarket support and accuracy due to the savage factory barrels and how consistent they are.
I know the ruger has the gunsite marketing but put them both side by side and you will see.
Can also later get a B&C stock or wood stock for the savage if it is wood you like and still save some dollars.
If one had a distinctive advantage in the platrom and only one barrel size to choose from then I would consider
16 but IMO the 16" for the 308 is a mistake no matter what firearm.
A 18" with a short brake is about the same as 16" with a longer brake. Think about it.
