I just saw this on the Ruger site and was all excited until I saw "Aluminum alloy" frame. Isn't that what is commonly referred to as "pot metal", like what the Heritage Rough Rider frame is made out of? Oh Ruger...why?

The Heritage RR goes for less than that with both cylinders. You can get a used single six for around the same price. Never saw Ruger as a company that would use aluminum alloy for anything. Now I understand the Ceracoat.

I have to say I have not been overly thrilled with my rugers. My sr22 has to go back and they basically rebuilt it. Everything new except the serialized frame. Now my lcpII slide is rusting. Not even the part where it sits up against my body. The rust is where the slide faces out. Not too happy. I’ll probably have it cerakoted.

I preordered the funky looking bronze Wrangler. I’ve never owned a SA revolver and have wanted a .22 for a while but I can’t justify the cost of the Single Six because I have a feeling this is going to be a novelty for me.

Considered the Rough Rider for a long time but I’ve had really good luck with Ruger and I think they have one of the best customer service departments in the industry.

Nearly all commercial aluminums are an aluminum alloy because pure aluminum is extremely soft. They add other metals, an alloy, making it stronger.

Remember: airplanes are made almost entirely from aluminum alloy.

Pot metal typically refers to zinc alloys that run anywhere from about 3 to 12% aluminum. Zinc is more susceptible to corrosion, especially if there is too much lead in the mix.

Aluminum alloys are usually more durable, corrosion resistant and don't tend to crumble apart like the old "pot metal" stuff did.

S&W used Aluminum alloy in several lines of 3rd. generation pistols quite a few years ago and they are still going strong. Don’t think there will be an issue here and it damn well will be better constructed than the Heritage revolvers.

I didn’t read the advertisement. Does it say that it’s Cerakoted or is it Anodized?

It's a cerakoted cylinder. That's the only aluminum.

Ceracoat is cheaper and probably easier to make the colors they're looking for.

To make a sub $200 gun that is of half way decent quality, they'll have to cut costs where ever they can.

It's 22LR. You could probably make the barrel out of aluminum and it would be fine.

So which one would you get? For me, I'm undecided between the straight black and the silver. I'm trying to think of how future wear from use and holsters will look on each of the models. The black with bare metal showing through on the edges will look good but how will that look on the other models? I would also want to swap out the grips with rose wood or laminate grips.

If I didn't have a couple of 22 revolvers already, I'd have one of these on the way. I still might.
