It is time to move on from this election and prepare for the next one, and the ones after that. People need to start speaking loudly, not so much about individual issues, but about the bigger, long term plan. Many of us seem to generally follow the same guiding principles until certain topics come up, then nobody can agree anymore. That is a good thing, particularly in politics, as it should prevent voting straight down a party line, or positioning oneself just to remain in power. The current group of folks ‘representing’ us in government have thoroughly demonstrated, particularly in the last few years and more so in the last couple of weeks, that they do not in any way, have any intentions to ever do what is best for the people, or the state/country again.
To members of Congress that said they would dispute the electoral college vote due to unconstitutional elections in several states, then changed their minds and certified the votes after the ‘riot’ at the capital - does one have anything to do with the other? No. They have shown us their true colors, and they need to be called out on it. They are aligning themselves with the incoming administration and need to be challenged in the primary's the next time they are up for re-election. Even if Trump did in fact incite a riot in an attempt to interfere with the certification of the electoral votes, does that change the original claim that several states held unconstitutional elections, or should it change any honest person's opinion of such? Again, I say no. McConnell, Graham, and the rest are just as disgusting and reprehensible as Pelosi and Schumer. They all need to be voted out.
The NY Assemblyman that sponsored A416(multiple times now) - N. Nick Perry - was re-elected this past November, overwhelmingly and without challenge. His bill aims to remove people from society if they are even suspected of being sick, to be detained in a secure facility, until, through due diligence, they are determined to no longer be a risk to public health or safety. No due diligence to detain us, only to release us? This bill will likely die in committee and never reach the floor for debate or vote. That is a shame. If I was to be elected to the assembly, I would co-sponsor this bill, fight for the support to get it through committee and onto the floor for a vote, where every member would have to go on the record, publicly, in support or in opposition of it. There, I would vote no, and excoriate in front of god and everyone, every single person that voted differently. Get this wannabe tyrant out of office - he is not even fit to serve a cup of coffee.
I will co-sponsor every insane bill that gets introduced, in hopes of getting it on the floor for a vote. I will debate any NY politician on any topic they choose. I will vote against every bill that increases taxes, spending, deficit, or strips away our rights and freedoms. I will start conversations that make everyone uncomfortable. I will provoke them to fight each other over who will get to steer this ship to the bottom. Hopefully, many join me by either running for office, participating in someone's campaign, making a small donation to a candidate you think will try to make a difference, or getting involved in some other way. Let’s start having difficult conversations and force these people in office to either start working for us, or fear us.
If there was ever a time for a viable 3rd party to emerge - a party sincerely committed to integrity and the prosperity of the people and this country - there is likely no better time than now.
