S.F. California ...A day without power: bad traffic, big losses, some frustration

Traffic was a mess, and restaurants and other businesses lost a sunny day’s worth of revenue while many workers were sent home during Friday’s big San Francisco blackout.

The power failure affected almost 90,000 Pacific Gas and Electric Co. business and residential customers, leaving Union Square, the Financial District, the outskirts of Chinatown and several other neighborhoods without electricity just after 9 a.m.

Aww poor San Fran waahhhhaaa. We get power outages like once a month in the NE sometimes for days. A single day blackout in spring, during the day on the west coast..Why is this any kind of news??

What many do not get is this was a real life SHTF. The situation does not need to be long lasting to have serious effects. This is why I plan and train and prepare for the unknown.

My first thought was a cyber attack, but we are in a period of increased solar activity which is forecasted to peak in the next few days. So that certainly is plausible.

But, if it was a cyber attack at least they are picking on the right cities. Hopefully it wasn't a test run for doing real damage widespread.
