Outstanding. Thank you.Well, for starters I can tell you it Definitely IS NOT a K22.
The 22 indicates .22 caliber and the barrel is clearly marked .38 S&W special cartridge.
You have a K frame.38 combat masterpiece. They were renamed the model 15 in 1957. The number on the butt is the serial number. I can cross recerence that in a book I have to see what other info. There may be on it.
@redtail , I did a little research on your revolver in a couple of books that I have. It looks like you actually have a K-38 Masterpiece “ pre Model 14” target revolver. Equipped with a .anti backlash trigger with adjustable stop and a short cocking action .375”short throw hammer. These were premium target revolvers back in the early 50’s . It also looks as though the grips may very well be original to the gun.
You are correct about the front sight . Also, the “Combat” Masterpieces were only 4” barreled guns. I’m pretty sure however that it is a double action. Not 100% sure on this but I believe the front sight gives it away as being a target masterpiece. The combat masterpiece had a ramped front sight.
I am also thinking it is Single Action Only, pulling the trigger for double action rotates the cylinder but does not move the hammer back to fire.
@redtail glad you got something out of that auction, there were a few pistols I bid on, but those got too high for my use. Ended up with the flare gun at the end. Damned if I know what I’m doing with it.
Sweet! Love those old Diamond magna grips. One way to check to see if they are original to the gun is to take off the grips and see if they are serial numbered to the gun. If you look close , the serial number is also right there on the cylinder. It should also be on the barrel there somewhere. Probably underneath, near the frame.Got to fondle her, one of the lightest crispest trigger breaks I ever felt.
Gonna be a keeper Me thinks.
