S7065 - mental health evaluation prior to purchase of any firearm

PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:

This bill will require a mental health evaluation before an individual
may purchase any firearm, rifle or shotgun.

JUSTIFICATION:

The many recent tragic events have clearly demonstrated the need to
prevent those with mental health problems from obtaining guns. This bill
will require that a mental health evaluation be conducted before an
individual can purchase or obtain a gun. This bill will help to protect
our citizens and prevent the death of innocent people.

But you cannot apply the same litmus test to others, like politicians, or say, a particular demographic which currently is enamored by the snowflake everyone wins a prize generation!

What mental health professional is going to administer these on the chance they have to go to court immediately after, causing their liability insurance to skyrocket?

It’s not impossible it does pass, but the water is so murky here it’s unlikely.

As a counterpoint, what individual that is denied is actually going to file suit? That costs money, a non-trivial amount of money. I expect not only is it going to pass, it is going to function to increase the costs to exercise your rights, which in turn is going to result in far fewer people doing so.

I have an emergency fund. Enough that I’d be able to sue. I’d also sue for lawyers fees.

Besides if lawyers see these as easy wins, they won’t take much retainer.

It could also create an impasse, where the doctors would just refuse to perform X exam, and the lawyers would refuse to take on cases involving X exam. Essentially deadlocking the process, and denying rights in the process, since without a favorable result of X exam, you can't pick up your firearm. I'm about positive this is exactly the desired outcome, too.

I'd sue. I hope everyone who could possibly be affected would do so as well. But a right restricted is a right denied, and the general population is appallingly apathetic these days...

Honestly if they actually manage to pass something this batshit, this is exactly what I'll do:

• I'll let @cgrutt do the work he needs to do.
• I'll rent a place across the border in PA.
• I'll rent out my old place here until I can sell it at a good price.

Not a perfect solution, but there is only so much I'm willing to put up with.

That is correct.. They did the same thing with releasing child molesters.. To release one back in society had to have an evaluation and have DR say that the perp would not molest again... ... Could get not one DR. in the entire state to sign . .. Law got dropped after a few years. .. This came from a pod cast I posted on here a few months ago
