NY State Senate Bill 2021-S1605

Requires a purchaser of any firearm, rifle or shotgun to submit to a mental health evaluation and provide the seller with his or her approval to purchase such firearm.

They might not bring this one up. I do not recall the sponsor making a big deal about it.

Bills that definitely will come up are the ghost guns crap. Nobody is speaking out against them after the "gun lobby" decided to endorse the premise.

No, it would be done openly as nobody in or out of the legislature is trying to pushback against any of the gun control schemes.

Even if this passes, think about logically why it will get shot down in SCOTUS. You're telling me a mental health professional, or even a doctor, wants to be held LIABLE for denying someone their civil rights and be constantly in court? Almost no one would do these, as the liability insurance would be through the roof.

What if they sign off on someone who shoots someone else? HUGE liability.

De-facto, even if passed, it will got shot down in practice. That's my take on this.

Maybe thats the point. It doesn't say that the mental health professional needs to provide this service. None or very few will provide it and limited transfers can be made thereafter.

I'm sure they have simple solution: Just have the state determine if you're fit. You pay to sue, and your taxes pay to defend the state you're suing. If they sign off and that person shoots someone, they just up the standards and/or add more bureaucracy.

Good. It's about time they start doing mental health screens on all the gang members shooting each-other in urban areas. This gun violence is out of hand...

Do you think the street dealer will do mental health checks before selling any illicit weapons?
