I never understood the wisdom of scaring people into compliance.
That's basically how all laws work.

there is no opposing force to stop them.
They are no more emboldened now than back in 2013, they just don't care because there is no opposing force to stop them. There was not in '13 and there are no forces now.
Well at this point they can over-ride Cuomo's veto so they feel like they can do anything they want. If you look at some of the non-gun related ideas being floated we can see they're definitely feeling more powerful than they have in years.
There is opposition, just no competent and committed leadership to take charge and lead the fight.
That's basically how all laws work.

Not necessarily true...
I do no, not follow laws out of fear, I follow most laws out of respect for myself and others. I do not murder for fear of jail time, I do not murder because it is wrong in today's society. I do not rob from others for the same reason. No fear.
Right but that's your personal behavior. The law is there as a deterrent to non-compliance. It doesn't mean there isn't honor in the action, just that there are potentially consequences to not following it.
Talk about non-compliance. Guy I work with who is former military, not a LEO, carries standard capacity pistol mags. Says he doesn't give a fuck and is convinced that cops won't/don't care either. I told him all it takes is that one cop who does care. Granted his chances of getting stopped and his mags inspected is quite low, but it's not something I'd have the balls to do. God bless him for doing it though. The way I am I would worry about it non-stop.
Well I'm a pussy when it comes to that because if I'm caught I'll have no guns at all. I'll just carry spare mags and practice reloads.Prior to my current occupation, so did I. When I was selling guns at GM, most carried standard. Most of my friends do as well.
Most cops do not know the laws. Not even a working knowledge of them.

Quite obvious that's what they think.I find it very unsettling that session of legislature after session, our elected politicians feel their purpose is to continue endlessly creating new and ever intrusive laws. Do they really think that's their purpose?
Lastly... The social compact we are "ALL" taking part in, is something of a Civic lesson that politicans need to be apprised of. We agree to give the govt powers, and we agree to abide by those rules they make. That's it ... We've never given the Gov't the ability to arbitrarily and unilaterally "RULE" over society. We've never agreed to allow the govt to operate with impunity while we may only do so by permission bestowed upon us by them. The inversion we are currently living through is grotesque and repulsive to many more than they could imagine, but again, for the most part, people are reserved to compliance in regard to social norms and collective acceptance. That in no way implies submission. They (politicians) seem to confuse the two...
But the cops work for thy county and if they don't tell the DA about it, they can't do shit. The DA's represent "The people of the state of NY" not the county. The county can say what they want about non compliance,it dont mean shit, they have no say in the enforcement of the safe act.
If he ever has to use it, the chance of those mags getting inspected is 100%.Talk about non-compliance. Guy I work with who is former military, not a LEO, carries standard capacity pistol mags. The gun will for sure be taken as evidence. Who knows if he'd be charged or not. You won't know till you know. Or he could ditch the mags before anyone gets there. Maybe carry a 10 rounder on you for that purpose. Not anything I'd want to deal with either way. .If he ever has to use it, the chance of those mags getting inspected is 100%.
If he never has to use it, they are no more useful than the legal ones.
However, if he ever needs that 11th round and it's not there, the rest of the issues could become moot.
Did you miss " if the "assault" rifle is in sight " that could and probably would be used as probable cause, or they might catch a wiff of pot smoke or whatever. You never know what someone else is going to do and when that 'someone' has a badge and authority and had a fight with his wife...Traffic stop is not going to lead to a vehicle search if one uses common sense and basic precautions. It's not all that hard to avoid it all together. Bad traffic accident would be a bigger concern, but at that point one will have a bigger problem to deal with, if he survives.

I dont think he meant actual pot smell.I think it was a reference to a cop using the smell of pot, real or imagined, to initiate a search. You want to smoke pot, I don't give a fuck what happens to you. Sorry for being blunt and by "you" I don't mean you personally, just a figure of speech.
You absolutely can't worry about that during or in the immediate aftermath of an incident.Last thing... And I mean the last thing I'd be worrying about "IF" heaven forbid I ever had to use a firearm... Is whether or not my mag is compliant, or if I had any skull grips, or was wearing a 2A T-Shirt... etc...
The only thing I'd be worrying about, especially immediately should a life preservation event occur while using my firearm, is checking the threat, ensuring it has ended, then making sure no additional threats were present, then check myself for holes, cuts or other injuries... Then that of those around me if I were protecting them... then maybe I'd secure my weapon, maybe... and then maybe, possibly check the threat, see if it was still functional. Then call for assistance... etc., etc.
Everything else will shake out as it will... There's no way to predict what will or won't happen, etc., especially legally... So it's no use worrying about it. The thing to focus and worry about, is the entire point of carrying and having a firearm on your person to begin with, that of your survival, period! Don't lose focus, don't lose sight of that purpose! Be singular in your thinking and with purpose in your intent! That's it...
Have a wonderful day
