A friend of mine and his wife from down south are buying a house up here for the same reason people up here move south in the winter, in reverse, they want to escape the summer humidity and heat. He's from here originally. He wants to bring his AR with him. I tried to explain as best I could what he has to do and he has no problem fixing the ten round magazine, and a dab of glue on the allen socket. With the magazine fixed will his other features, adjustable stock, basket type flash thingy, bayonet lug, be legal?
He is a good guy, three tours in VN, and I don't want him to get in any big time trouble over something so blatantly stupid and meaningless. I'm going on about a week of sleep deprivation and maybe all my neurons aren't firing properly, but I just I don't want to screw up and give him bad information.

Some members here run them. That's where I learned of it's existence. Reviews... It either fixes the mag or it doesn't. I don't think many people are going to review it's performance I would gather. It works or it doesn't.

If I remember correctly they give you a shim with the kit so you can release it. Also swear I remember them saying guys in NY should block that area so the shim won't work.

I know local cops here that say featureless and fixed are completely legal. But never spoke with a trooper about it. Think my brothers friend just became one recently. If he is I'll have to see what his orders are on this.

My understanding it is legal.

But if it “looks” illegal, he could be stopped for it , then they check the rifle. Let him be prepared for that. I would recommend carrying the literature explaining how it is now a fixed magazine and how it is legal just in case the officer doesn’t know how the fixed magazine applies, or even if it’s a fixed magazine after the modification.

Don't rely on what ANY cops tell you - I've had two tell me that any - (a'hem) - " large capacity magazine" - possessed prior to the 'SAFE ACT' - is grand-fathered in and is perfectly legal to possess.

It amazes me that this law is still around when the people that are going to enforce it and interpret it don't even know what's legal or not .

True Believer, I would think that in order for any LEO to examine a rifle, he would need a warrant. Otherwise he is violating your 4th amendment. On the other hand, if the LEO arrests you for anything while your driving your car, then he can and will inspect the rifle. If they tow your vehicle, they have to inventory everything in the car. That is when you get another charge.
