Safe Reccomendations

Well I think it's time I buy a drawer safe for my bedside gun. I think I have it narrowed down to two but am open for more recommendations.

Let me know what you think of it. I'm planning on getting one. I really like it. I don't like the Fort Knox because I have kids and they are easy to just punch through all the combos quickly. Also no way to know or track that your kids are doing it.

If you'd worried about your kids breaking in, look at some of the YouTube videos of how easy it is to get in most small electronic gun safes. I'd be more comfortable with the Ft. Knox over something that can get jimmied open with a paper clip or magnet.

I agree. It gets worse though... some of these handgun lock boxes have spring loaded latches (not deadbolt) so all that is needed is to drop the safe a few inches and it can open. Do not know if this applies to the vaultek.

When I'm retrieving the gun for other uses I will be last and use the finger print reader. Eventually maybe I will trust it for rapid access,but right now I'm still suspicious.

I agree. The research I did it all seems good with this safe. I like it because you can set up alerts to your phone and get notified if some one is messing with it. The Fort Knox safes it's a no Rainer that it can be broken into with out notification and without any warning. This safe has thousands upon thousands of code combos because it's 9 digit and can reuse numbers. Keep me posted I'm really curious.

I got the safe today and got it all setup. My first impression is the packaging is exceptional, not that it matters much. I found the setup was easy and straight forward. But I could see if your not tech savvy having trouble setting it up.

So far the finger print reader seems to be fast and accurate. I was able to put me and the wife's in with ease. I've only opened it about 50 times with it, so I don't know if in a defensive situation if I would use that or the key pad. This is my first finger print reader so I have nothing to compare it too.

Overall construction seems great and well-thought out. The latches and seems are well protected. I think it would take a lot to break into this thing. I like the rechargeable feature where you don't even have remove the battery or open the safe is a great feature. The keys seem sturdy and have a good positive feed back if you don't want the beep feature on, you can tell when you hit it. The back lit feature is great and is easily seen in the dark. I really like the the internal light feature it makes sense when accessing the safe at night.

The mobile app and digital feature are well thought out. The app setup and pairing was simple and straight forward. The control you have with the apps amazing. You can name your safe mine is the "hurt locker" haha. You can turn on and off the beeping when you hit keys to your preference. You can adjust the brightness of the internal light. You can monitor your battery life which is handy for this type of safe. You can name the different finger prints. This will be handy in case you want to add or remove access to the safe. The app allows you to track when and how the safe is open. So if you've named your finger prints you will be able to tell who accessed the safe.

My overall impression is this was a good buy for me, but if I had to do it over again I'm not sure if I would have gotten the finger print reader model. I think that feature is for when your lazy and don't need your gun asap. Therefore I don't think it was worth the $50 bucks to me.

Thanks for the write up. That's what I was hoping it would be. I think I will end up with one. I was going back and forth on the finger print reader as well. My question is when I looked and I maybe wrong, but if you don't get the fingerprint reader you don't get the Bluetooth either. Now I looked some time ago and it may have changed by now. Again thanks and I look forward to another update??

I'd still need one of those boxes to keep my kids hands off my guns. I'm not doing it because it's a legal requirement of the state.

That’s cool AF, but 3 things, does that case have metal behind it so no one can punch threw? Is that AR NYS complaint? And I feel like that door can be opened with a credit card. Oh yeah and what’s your address and your passcode?

yes if you knew it was there you could just punch through drywall...... someday when im motivated thinking of atleast a harder substance for interior walls like backer board or plywood... really should enclose all in steel but ....part if the safety is you dont know its there so.........thats sorta what Im betting on these days.....

NO can not do it with a cc as the molding is "deep" and it creates a "L" like a pick plate would........

my manual over ride is a key behind the keypad....thats ny failesafe for power outage the unit bites the big one or something like that.

NO it dont consider it the best way to go but is the road I went down for now. my old safe was just those small stackons that could not bolt to floor.just pick up and go and i thought once I bought pistols and that had to go........

only my daughter knows the code as she used to stash large amounts of cash in there......my wife may not even remember it...hehehehe

im proud of how well the moldings match up and well it "hugs" to the wall when closed. took some effort to make that happen so it doesnt look any other than a built in bookcase......

How'd it go with the safe? What model did you get in the end?

I was thinking of getting one of the smaller models as both a bedside safe and a travel safe for when I go down to Texas, so I can take my carry pistols with me on vacation. Wondering how well it holds the pistols, or if I should wrap everything in there in some socks to prevent rattling / damage on trips?
