Salmon fishing in/around Rochester

Anybody do any salmon fishing in or around Rochester? I'm interested in going, but I have absolutely no idea where to start. I've never been before, so I don't know what setup to use, where to go, when to go, or anything.

I'm not looking for your secret honey holes or anything, but I'm more than willing to pay for bait or lures, or whatever

Or, am I too late? I know that October is a pretty popular month, right?

Back like 10 years ago I remember salmon fishing, I think at high falls. Where ever it was they found a body there soon after. Another place Ive been a few times is the Damn in Waterport, have some pics laying around of me catching fish there. Dont remember using anything fancy,,,,ugly stick and like 40lb test,,,,this is just what I think I remember.

It can get pretty packed in the salmon river. U could also hit up the Oswego river. Be careful of non locals, they get into fights over salmon.

I took a "charter" once that I found on groupon. It was actually put on by the fishing outfitter down ok the bag (next to the canoe place...both names are escaping me at the moment).

I say "charter" because all they did was provide the boat, pokes, and bait. We had to do the rest. It wasn't what we expected, but it was actually pretty fun. They took us up the river to the base of the falls. Out of the 8 of us, only one person caught anything, but it was still pretty cool to see all the salmon in the river.

I remember the days of snagging LOL.... In the Gen river by Electric plant. Seen a girl get a 1lb. hook in eye, off to emergency room. exaggeration on 1lb, but you seen the huge treble lead hooks LOL..

Head out to Wayne County. You can fish under the bridge and a bit upstream in Pultneyville or Maxwell creek out in Sodus.
Sodus has plenty of parking and stream, stay off the bank by the Bed and Breakfast, That's private property.
We would fish tiny flies on a long noodle rod with a float a couple feet up from the fly.
Where your carry gun. The Russians from Jersey have been out collecting eggs. There was a good brawl at Maxwell 3 weeks ago.

go to the piers in Charlotte and Summerville and cast small spoons. I think the salmon season is over now.
