The woman officer was apparently very confident in her aim. She fired on the criminal while he was holding the hostage very closely.

Since the criminal was still functioning when he released the hostage after the first shots, I'd have to assume that the woman officer did not try a head shot (since hostage's head was close to criminal's head).

Appears to be good work by police officers.

I don't see why the male officer opened fire. The hostage was already clear after the offender was wounded by the shots from the female officer.
