I just ordered a youth stock for a 110 savage to switch out the adult stock.I ordered from Numrich and it said it would fit but it doesnt. The screw holes dont even line up.is there a different.Did they screw up and give me the wrong one?
This is the actual listing for the stock I ordered, does the GY mean something that I cant figure out?Its an older model 110 in 243 caliber. Original Savage 10 GY / 110 GY RH, S/A Hardwood Youth Stock w/ Rifle Pad
Screw spacing changed years ago starting is some models. So the screws and bottom plate do not have to be compatible unless they are purchased with the same model/spec. I am not sure how much you paid but youth are cheap in ebay and perhaps a better option is to cut the factory one and get a quality full length later.
Thats exactly what I thought cutting it down, but then finding a pad that fit to look nice would require a gunsmith.Tried to get away with it quick and easy before Christmas for $100,but we all know how that goes.
The GY is part of the model designation. As far as I can determine the GY designates that it is a model 110 youth model. Numrich offers two stocks for the Model 110 GY, a short action version and a long action version of the stock.
In their product listing, Numrich also clearly tells you how much space is between the take down screws:
There are 4.25" between takedown screws center to center.
I am guessing they include that information because older or newer models, or other versions of the 110, may not have the same spacing and thus they are giving you the opportunity to measure the distance to make sure the stock will fit your rifle.
Note that the Model 110 GY has a 22" barrel. Some other versions of the model 110 have 24" barrels. A stock made for a 22' barreled version may not fit on one with a longer barrel as dimensions, like the distance between the takedown screws, might be different. The Model 110 GY also only came in these calibers: .223 Rem., .243 Win., .270 Win., .300 Sav. or .308 Win. (source Blue Book of Gun Values) while other versions of the Model 110 came in a variety of other calibers. Those in other calibers could have been manufactured to different specs as to which stocks would fit and I suppose it is possible that the GY stock may not fit the build of your rifle if it is one of them.
