I forgot to bring this up, it happened back in the fall.
A group of us, including a family member were shooting some tannerite cans at 100 yards with a new Savage Axis 30-06 that was bought of hunting season. The rifle was purchased for $280 with a scope. After shooting it, seemed like a great deal for a well made rifle, with a cheap stock.
When my family member went to take a shot, he pushed the safety forward and shot the ground 10 feet in front of the table we used as a rest. I was half watching him, but we were all behind the firing line. It appears that the safety actually fired the rifle. I can't be sure if my family member fumble fingered the trigger, but we all appeared to be following proper safety measures.
It only happened once. Has anyone heard of Savage Rifles having this issue? Certainly scared the piss out of us. I did some general googling and didn't see anything. I am inclined to believe that my family member used his trigger finger as leverage to push the safety forward.
