savage model 63 22 lr single shot with factory trigger lock

I acquired one of these recently.It has a key lock similar to a drawer or cabinet located in grip directly behind the trigger guard.When it is used it blocks the trigger so it can not be fired.My problem is no key. Luckily it is not in the unfire position. I don,t really know how to remove lock so I possily could take it locksmith.Any ideas.I think they were only made 70-72.

Spray some wart remover into the lock hole and then drop the rifle hard.

Why not just take the rifle to a locksmith?

I spoke to 2 locksmiths y phone.They both informed me it was impossile to make a key for a lock if they didn,t have the original key WHAT THE FUCK apparently all the old craftsmen are pushing daiseies.

From what I've scared up, Numrich part #130630A is the lock, for $9.00, out of stock. You could call, but probably out of stock period. I'd call, jeeze for 9 bucks I'd just buy one...probably came with a key. The part is listed, but not illustrated (NI) in the schematic.

There can't be very much to the lock, or the whole guts for that matter...be brave, take it apart....

I read on a couple of other forums of people getting keys made for these.

You need to find a locksmith who is just about to retire. The new guys just replace parts and copy keys

I would just let it coexist if it’s in unlocked position. Kinda like the keltec sub 2k it’s there but not needed

I'm a fan of old 22s, and glad to hear yours is back to full functionality. I have an old Mossberg single shot, the Boy Scout Rifle, and that has a automatic safety when you draw the bolt back...first thing that owners removed. I was able to find the long gone part and restore it.
