So these pictures are pretty crappy, but I think you’ll get the picture. It was like brown and white mixed together. I’ve never seen anything like it.
So I guess they are called piebald deer. It was all mixed together white and brown.

We spotted this doe last fall on a job site. I was told it is called a piebald deer.

Yeah I saw that on the web. Piebald. This one was almost 50/50 white and brown not patchy either. It was blended together.

20180412_071023.jpg Funny, i have a deer near me with white on its face and rear end. I just saw it again 2 days ago and tried to snap a pic. You can't really tell in the picture but it's a big white patch on top of its head.

    Very cool.

There is (or was) a website out of Michigan where a guy has albino deer, very neat.

Pibald is correct, they actually have a genetic problem. Can be know to have shorter lower jaw if I remember correctly and have problems chewing.

This is a genetic trait, so there are usually geographic areas that have higher numbers of Piebald deer.
This is why some guys laugh and say they are all over, but others say theyve never seen one.
Here in Southern Chautauqua Co, they are pretty common. There are several businesses that have mounted piebalds on display.
We also have a large number of black squirrels. Probably 50% gray and 50% black.
We also have alot of brown black bears.
Must be something in the water......like lead or uranium. ;)
Like mentioned above, piebald deer can have health issues but not all of them.
Some of the genes that influence color, also can influence their bones, hooves and antlers.
There is nothing wrong with their meat, so help strenthen the deer herd, eat a piebald. ;)

That’s funny I live by Niagara Falls and there are tons of black squirrels up there. Never seen them anywhere else. Now I see them north and south of me.
I live smack dab in the middle of the city and never seen a piebald deer. My dads a cop in my city I’ll ask him if he’s ever seen one before. I’d think he’d have told me if he had.

    They are still really rare.
Most hunters I know havent seen one in decades of hunting.
The fact that I know of 2 guys that have shot one and there is one on our property means we are chocked full of them. ;)

A little off topic but I had a black squirrel in my yard yesterday. Probably not very rare but it’s a first for me. I tried to get a picture but he was gone before I could get close enough.

Had one (piebald deer) at my house for a couple of years, south east Cortland county. As far as black squirrels, see them all the time in Mattydale/North Syracuse.

I see a few black squirrels every year in the Finger Lakes area. One of these days, I'm going to shoot one and mount it.
