School me on .410 Shotgun

I have an elderly friend who wants to get a .410 shotgun that his wife can use as a home defense gun.

I want to use this as an opportunity to get another gun into my gun cabinet, by buying .410 and letting then hold it for me. Any thoughts on Henry .410 lever action, Taurus Judge, or ATI Semi-auto ar STYLE

Never owned one but from a reliability point and quality Henry life time warranty as for home defence even a single shot with buckshot is better than having nothing at all just my

Out of those 3, I would go with the Henry. Don't know enough about the reliability of the ATI, the judge is a pistol i believe and wouldn't use that barrel length and rifling with buck.

I used to have a mossberg 500 in .410 and regret giving it away. Fun caliber

FWIW I wouldn't recommend buying a home defense gun on behalf of somebody else. Believe you could get jammed up with Form 4473 if they ever needed to use it. My $0.02.

Why? It's perfectly legal to buy a gun for someone.

If it's being bought for someone it needs to be transferred in NYS, no? OP said it will be purchased for him and will let the elderly couple hold it. 4473 asks specifically if you're buying on behalf of someone else. If OP answers "yes" I don't believe it would pass. If he answers "no" and in fact never retains gun but "lets his friend hold onto it" I think that could be a problem if it was ever used in a home defense scenario. Better to have the actual recipient complete the transfer IMO. Just a suggestion.

That's combining the 4473 and SAFE.

On the federal side, it's perfectly legal to buy a gun for someone and give it to them, assuming they aren't prohibited. Like the gifting you mention.

SAFE might be where you do have a problem though. The whole "all transfers must go through an FFL' crap.

I would highly recommend the Tactical Circuit Judge for its ease of use. There is nothing like a revolver for reliability. My wife liked her Circuit Judge for the thumbhole stock. FWIW the Winchester PDX is a nice round for the .410 Winchester PDX1 Defender Ammo 410 Bore 2-1/2 3 Disks over 1/4oz BB Box

I understand it is still not easy to find shotguns in stock, but a local FFL made this recommendation for an elderly couple.

To the OP; I say your gun cabinet should be garnished to your hearts content, and a Henry would be a fine choice.

Taurus Circuit Judge .410,.45 Colt. I've never sold or passed on a firearm, not sure if ffl is required for long guns, unless a type that is registered.

My first gun was the one in the video. My wife with her bad back and broken shoulder that never healed right can handle it. It's small enough to maneuver in a tight hallway too. Kick is soft enough to shoot from your hip too.

I'd say a pump might be a better option than a lever or revolver for an elderly novice.

The downside to a lever to me is that it seems a bit easier to short stroke than a pump for a newbie and the loop might hurt an old person's hands to work. As for a revolver, a double action trigger is heavy and doubly so if it's gritty. I expect that a Taurus or Rossi revolving carbine would have a heavy and gritty DA trigger, so it's not very good for accurate defensive shots. There's also the matter of hot gases escaping the cylinder gap on a revolving carbine. I don't know if it applies to lower pressure cartridges like the .410 or .45 Colt, but I wouldn't want my arm near a cylinder gap when a revolver is firing.

on the 410 .. ammo is expensive .. even 5 yrs ago .. 16 bucks or more factory box of 25 birdshot for shooting skeet .. why everyone that shoots the 410 reloads for it and scrounges for hulls to reload ..

there is some good HD ammo for the 410 but your going to pay for it ...

so she will need a bunch of rounds to practice with and get used to the gun .. $$$$ ..
