School me up on m17 compared to M18 compared to a full size p320.

Does anyone have an m17?

I don't know much about them just trying to learn.

I thought I've read that m18's were the better version and all the kinks were worked out with the M18, but what about the m17? I like the idea of a fullsize since that's something I need.

M17 is the 4.7 inch full sized gun. The M18 is the 3.9 inch carry version. They use the same FCU and the only difference is the grip and slide and barrel. If you look at my P320 sale thread you can see the difference in the two gun sizes.

Do they both come with the "upgraded" trigger?

Do they have the same slide finish? I've read that the finish on the m17 was weaker and more easily wears off than the M18. Any truth to that?

Is the m17 worth it over the regular p320 fullsize? Any reliability difference between them

The top one is 320 I built and the bottom is the M17 I bought.
The M17s and M18s come with an optics ready slide and a manual safety. And you get some of the swag that says M17 but other than that they are the same. There is a difference in the brown and black finish. I have heard of complaints about the brown finish wearing but have no experience. @Gonzobird has an M18 with the brown finish and may be able to give some insight on the wear.

What made you choose the p320 over something like Glock?

I do like them, I have made one from an80% fire control unit, what a pain that was. I have two factory 320s the Legion and the M17. The rest I built when sig recalled all of them for the drop problem. They put the stripped FCUs on the market after they fixed them. So I bought a few and built and built them. They are a pretty simple gun to completely strip and put back together. I like the tungsten infused grip. And have it on a couple of my 320s.

Overall they are my second favorite auto loader behind the 1911. Pretty strange coming from a guy who didn’t trust striker fired guns 5 years ago. I have two set up for competition the rest are just because guns.

I have an M17, I bought just on a whim. I love the feel and the trigger. I have put about 300 rounds through it. I love the mags that come with it.

Just getting into the P320 so I might be mistaken, but I believe the M18 is the "carry" size and the M17 is full size. 3.9 vs 4.7" barrel. The carry is slightly bigger than the compact with +2 in the mag. Same 3.9 slide and barrel but a little longer grip. Factory standard 17 round mags vs the compact's 15.

I'm waiting on my permission slip to pick up a 320 compact.

Just comparing it to a G19, it seems to fit my hand better. Can't really explain it but it just feels better. I think the trigger is better than the G19. To me, just dry firing, it seems smoother, lighter and with a shorter reset.

I have the x5 Legion and it's in my top three best guns to shoot. It's weight is perfect and recoil is really low.

I worked for a Sig dealer here for a couple of years . . .
P320 full size is the same as the M17 except for cosmetics. The M17 is the military designation for the P320 with manual safety (original model). Slide is stainless steel and PVD coated. This is the Army contract gun. Commemorative models have a CAGE code marking (QR) on the side like the army issued ones and came with challenge coin and some other swag IIRC.
P320 Carry is similar to the M18 (Navy and Marine gun) 3.7 inch barrel
I believe that the only other real differences are that the M models come wit (1) 17 round mag and (2) 21 round mags.
As typical with many manufacturers a few extra skus will be added for safety/no safety, different mag capacity, and state approved versions.
Both Sig's website and wiki have better descriptions as mfgs love to change small things

Yes, this right here. The Legion series of guns offers few upgrades on the guns for the price charged. As I recall sometimes a finish upgrade and/or trigger tweak, occasionally fancier grips, but for the upcharge you get the privilege to buy Legion gear.
For the time I spent at the dealer there were only a few guns that got me interested. P365, P320 carry (M18), P938, Beretta 92 LTT, Walther PPQ, and a couple others. I won a 365, bought the LTT because I got a screaming deal (it was purchased at SHOT show for the boss and I grabbed it while I was checking it in,didn't know it was for him), almost bought the PPQ because of the trigger, and was on my way to winning a M18.
