Scope for a 10/22??

Im not super experienced with rifle scopes but I want one for my Ruger 10/22.
Any suggestions for a scope for the 50 yards and less for chipmunk control and such?
Id like to stay under $100 or so but open to suggestions.
It may not even be a big deal at such close range but I dont know......maybe any cheapo scope will work.

Mine came with one as a part of a 'special' they has last year. I believe that it is a low-end Vortex Optics but it's adequate for small stuff close up...

You've got a lot of options. Start thinking about what power magnification you want and start shopping.

As long as you're not trying to dial in drop or otherwise constantly making adjustments, the lower end scopes from major manufacturers should work well.

Im looking at probably under 50 yards so maybe 1-4 power.....if thats a thing.....I see that on the closer range scopes.
Looking at Vortex.....I have 2.... the only scopes ive owned.

I’m kind of at a loss what to recommend ever since Nikon stopped making scopes. Of my 3 10/22, two have Nikon Rimfire scopes and the third has tech sights.

You should resist the urge to go cheap on a scope. I have a crate full of those and you’ll end up pitching them. I’m beginning to think you should spend the same amount on a scope as the base rifle. But, thus is advice I can’t always follow myself.

I’m liking this Nikon Prostaff P-Rimfire line, if you can find it. I think Leupold makes a line of VX-Freedom Rimfire scopes. I have an older VX-1 2-7x32 rimfire that is probably the best dedicated rimfire specific scope I own. Ironically, it sits without a mount because I converted a number of my rimfires to irons. But, Leupold starts at 3x Your budget.

Try to get a scope with a fixed objective parallax free at 50 to 60 yards. I like the 3-9x because it can do some target shooting. But, I rarely go higher than 4x while hunting. I think you need at least 4x.

I had a BSA Sweet 22 on my Marlin XT-22 before I traded it for a CZ 455. I hunted with it for years and I have nothing bad to say about it. I still have in my closet. I may end up throwing it out. That would break my heart, but it is just taking up space.

Recoil on a .22 rifle is so low that almost any scope will remain true. At that rate your biggest concern should be clarity and resistance to the elements. I also have a Simmons 3-9 X 40 and have been using it for at least eight years. Thousands of rounds.

I have a BSA sweet 22 on a savage mkII and a Redfield Revolution Accurange 2-7x32 on a 10/22. The Redfield was around $150, but feels like a more expensive scope. The savage is more accurate, but I shoot the 10/22 more because of the better scope. Both are good for the price.

I put a luepold vx3 on my sons 10/22 and it’s amazing. I think it was about $180. It’s fantastic though.

I’ve got some Simmons scopes some are good and some are junk. I might have one sitting around here if you want it. I might have mounted it in my pellet gun. Can’t remember if I have another one sitting around or not. It would be 3x9.

I have a BSA sweet 22 on a savage mkII and a Redfield Revolution Accurange 2-7x32 on a 10/22. The Redfield was around $150, but feels like a more expensive scope. The savage is more accurate, but I shoot the 10/22 more because of the better scope. Both are good for the price.

That factory Ruger 10/22 barrel will never stand up to Savage MKII. However, I have a Savage 93 R 17HMR that is not as accurate as my 10/22 with a Green Mountain Heavy Barrel. The Savage has a Nikon Prostaff 5 4-14x40 of all things. It’s the same scope I have on my Savage Axis 2 223 and Ruger American 308. It’s probably too much scope for the Savage 17HMR. My CZ455 has Vortex Diamondback 6-24x50 MRAD and first focal plane reticule with a 30 MOA base. It cost as much as the base rifle. It may be a little over-scoped.

I looked around at some reviews online and this one scope keeps popping up.
Its far less expensive than any others on the lists.....the next cheapest is around the $110 range.
Several places have said this is good for the money and easy to use.
I will never really use it for more than chipmunks and short range plinking.
But im gonna check out the one you guys suggested too.
$150 isnt too much but I probably dont need the added features.....$46 might be ok.

Actually, I probably have almost a dozen old scopes that fit into this category. I’d love to donate them to a good home. I just have to get of my ass and be organized.

Most of my rifles have Nikon scopes, Two rimfires are wearing the Nikon prostaff EFR 3-9x40 with another one still nib ( was on sale for a good price) One of the first scopes I ever bought near 20 years ago was a Tasco 2.5-10x 42 AO is what is on one of my three 10/22's it's a nice clear mil-dot scope that I really like on this 22 rifle. I do have a few Centerpoint scopes that worked well on 22's the rings they come with are junk.

One thing you will want to do is the auto bolt release, there are videos on you tube just need a small file if not its a cheap purchase.

My 10-22 I bought from a guy, maybe twenty years ago, with a cheap Simmons on it. No Idea how old it is but it still holds zero and adjusts to re-zero to whatever type ammo I'm using.

I’ve got a couple of old school 1950’s Mossberg .22’s with period correct Weaver scopes on them that are still crystal clear and work perfectly for close range and out to 50 + yards without any problems. Most any good brand name inexpensive scope will fill your needs on a standard barreled 10/22 .
