dward Peruta is a litigious Vietnam veteran who spends part of each year living out of a trailer home in San Diego.

Neil Gorsuch is a conservative Coloradan with impeccable Ivy League judicial credentials.

Peruta’s legal challenge to San Diego County’s concealed carry permitting system has been winding its way through the federal court system since 2009.

Gorsuch was sworn in as the newest associate justice of the Supreme Court just four days ago.

On Thursday, their fortunes will meet when Gorsuch joins his first-ever Supreme Court conference to discuss whether the bench should hear Peruta v. California, which asks whether the Second Amendment protects a right to carry guns in public spaces. It could be the most consequential gun case since the Court confirmed the individual right to bear arms in District of Columbia v. Heller nearly a decade ago. The majority opinion in that case was written by Antonin Scalia, Gorsuch’s predecessor and a staunch originalist, but it left unresolved a handful of major questions about the Second Amendment. Peruta v CA is done, and the en banc decision of the 9th Circuit that allows for officials to in essence only allow May Issue when you can show that you are subject to sufficient threats that put you above and beyond the public as a whole, stands.

The dissent is 8 pages long. The only ones who were in favor enough of granting cert and who wrote the dissent were Thomas and Gorsuch. So, I guess Roberts, Alito, and Kennedy are basically worthless when it comes to 2A rights.

So, the setup here in NY is unchanged. And for those in CA who cannot articulate a special need, they are likewise still screwed.

Trump will likely get at least one more SCOTUS pick during his tenure, with the possibility of a couple more.

There's a very similar case percolating out of Massachusetts. I suspect the timing will be better for that one.

Thomas and Gorsuch have paired together in another dissent. Hopefully, Thomas will not leave sooner than anticipated now that someone who appears to be similar to Scalia is around.

The only thing we will get is useless minority opinions that trick us into believing in the system. Thomas and Gorsuch are a part of the same corrupt institution.

Because they know they will either have to side with Peruta or look like the Activist pieces of Shit judges they are!

Can't say I'm shocked, SCOTUS is still too scared to decide this matter once and for all. It may be a minor blessing in disguise though, as Trump will have time hopefully to add two more judges to the bench before the next case gets there.

The system is not going to change as long as people still believe in the system. It doesn't matter who sits on the court.

On the plus, it looks like Trump is getting a lot of his ban, so the lower judges can piss off. Hearing more arguments in october.

It is a construct that has become so beginning in the last century due to left wing politics and social reformers, Hollywood, big media, i.e. communists. Roberts, Alito, and Kennedy are left of center and they always have been. MSM reports of them being Conservative has always been intentionally crafted fake news. I believe our new justice is likely a centrist who should uphold the Constitution and Thomas is usually a reliable Constitutionalist. RIP A. Scalia.

Communism or communists have nothing to do with the pickle this country is in. In fact their Constitutional rights were abused more then any other group's and they never had any political influence. They may be worse, but they are certainly not guilty of political corruption that took over this country.
