As always, and I'm sure yours is the same, the pic doesn't do it justice.
I stayed put for a few minutes then radioed the wife to tell her I had shot a doe and was going to look for it. She said you want me to come now and help? I said nah wait til I find it. Turns out, I would radio her back in about 30 seconds.
Got out of the stand and started walking. Got onto the main trail, and looked up. 100 yards away, a blood trail a blind man could follow. I radioed her back, and said you might as well grab the sled and c'mon down, looks like an Alfred Hitchcock movie, deer can't be far. It wasn't. All I had to do was look at the blood trail and follow it with my eyes, from where I was standing some distance away. Wow. This is my 45th season. Never seen anything like it.
Edit: I give all the credit in the world to the Hornady .30 cal 165 gr BTSP. Double lung pass thru, exit hole the size of a 50 cent piece, chunk of lung hanging out of it. All the performance I was hoping for, and paid for.

As a converse to a good blood trail, the 10 point my buddy took last weekend walked almost 200 yards with a crossbow wound that went straight through.....and not ONE discernible drop of blood right up to where we tripped on him.
