Movie and book were different.Movie sucked, you need to read the book. All time favorite author.
Both were great, for different reasons.

The director of the movie was like a kid who wrote a book report after only reading the cliffs notes. Now I'm intrigued didn't know there was a book
Nicely said. When you cheapen something its value is lessened, there is still an intrinsic value, however even that worth is subjective.
Being born here makes one a Citizen, and that is why subjects such as Civics, American History, and Social Studies are (or were) taught as early as Elementary School, why Raising the Flag in the Morning while playing the National Anthem, and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance were the start of the day: to build the foundation of Citizenship, to give the title of American actual meaning and value, that value is but one reason why felons were stripped of the Rights associated with Citizenship.
There was a time when being a United States Citizen had meaning around the World, but now that Citizenship has been cheapened by summarily "giving it" to those who would come here in avoidance of the established channels, the disavowing of Americans on other shores, abject failure around the World where we've sent Troops, then there's the debauchery flaunted across Television and Movie Screens that shun moral turpitude.
We've coddled and allowed persons to join the Military that thirty years ago would not have been allowed to or if discovered would have been dishonorably or generally discharged from Service... Hard men wrote the standards to establish a "well regulated" Military Force, not just to make a "Soldier of One" better, but to protect and strengthen those serving with him.
I admire those who come to America, take the Classes and strive to become Citizens, those that joined the Military and actually embraced the suck and became, and while we should have compassion for those who escaped tyranny and persecution, that in of itself is not reason to arbitrarily hand out premium goods and services while those who served live on the Street.
Same thing was said in the 60's during Nam. Some things dont change, eh?Can you imagine having to draft some of the college kids today - OMFG
We would be as well just surrendering
