9mm: 124gr HST
.45 ACP: Federal Hi-Shok 230gr JHP

9mm I chose after looking at Lucky Gunner's testing - consistent penetration to the far edge of the FBI window and uniform expansion.

45 was just a cheap hollow point and isn't really a serious option for defense. I never carry 45 and the 9s would be the first choice in any home defense situation.

I don't even consider the other two calibers in a defensive capacity because the 357 is a revolver and the 22LR is, well, 22LR.

Having shot several thousand rounds through one of these, I wouldn't pass one up for defensive use. Extra thought required for how you're going to conceal it though. Winter isn't a problem, and good HD gun too.

My BIL had a nickel plated DE that I shot a LOT. For such a big heavy gun they sure are pleasant to shoot. If your hands are big enough.

I just can't get past the capacity and slower reloads. Sure, with most defensive shootings 6 is enough and 357 is certainly enough round. Keep in mind, I don't shoot enough either. I might have several thousand rounds through all of my pistols - might.

I was being a smart ass, you must have went to the link. The DE 357mag is an auto. They also come in 44mag and 50AE.

I was really confused when you linked an "assault weapon" out of the blue. I thought your first line was referring to the revolver.

I definitely wouldn't mind owning one of those L5's though.

Among confusing you I also can't type today. I meant "must NOT have went". They're only an AW in the State's eye, not like it mattered one bit because they were already registered being handguns. They can be lightened up to fall under 50oz, I seen a couple that have been done. Don't remember the name of the company though.
