Yep great idea. I have used that method for many years when building a campfire for the kids to toast up some marsh mellows. Rather then having a 2-sided drop I just use one side and stack up some logs. They will slowly roll into the fire as the ones in the pit burn out. You still need to keep an eye out as I have had the logs in the stack catch also.

If I need to stay up all night to make sure the whole thing doesnt go up in flames, I might as well just feed the fire myself.

Maybe soak the upper logs in water for awhile.
They are less likely to catch fire.
As they move down, they will dry and should be ready by the time they get to the fire.

Just keep the fire smaller and build the stack poles at a less than 45 degree angle. Fire wont travel up that easy and you can dream easier about the one you missed!
