CNN's Jake Tapper asked Hirono how she envisions a ban on semi-automatic weapons: "Do you envision a mandatory buyback, mandatory confiscation, just a restriction on sales of new ones?" he asked.
Well," Hirono replied, "you start with the sales of new ones, because when you start talking about confiscating guns, then you run into, I would say, some legal challenges. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow Thursday night he’s “very actively considering calling the committee back into session” before the recess ends “to consider bills on banning high capacity magazines, banning assault rifles, certain provisions to make sure people convicted of hate crimes or domestic violence can't get guns and various other suggestions that have been made by members and others.
