I do know (at least when I had considered becoming a trooper and had taken the first round of testing) that with the NYSP, any act of cowardice and you are out.

The Secret Service has been compared to the Praetorian Guard (the elite soldiers who protected the Roman Emperor). Regardless of who was the "legitimate" emperor the guards at times assassinated the emperor for various reasons (good and ill). This causes me to fear that perhaps there are rouge elements in the Secret Service who may take matters into their own hands if you know what I mean.
