Finally putting together our shelves, one you can do horizontal and use as a workbench for guns. Which of these for coatings would you use? Shelves are already coated but we know that is junk. I'm leaning towards the one on the left.
I've found the most durable paint for reloading bench, garage bench is Rust-Oleum enamel w/a brush; two coats.
I prime if it's metal or two coats of the oil base for "wood". Any wood loves the oil. I find spray products to have a nasty VOC that attacks plastics. The brush stuff does take a little longer to dry but the finish is thicker, it sticks and has held up to gasoline, WD-40, Hoppe's #9, ammonia (bore cleaner) etc. I use smoke grey because it's neutral on the eyes, my wife says the garage and basement shops look like a battleship.
If you are using particalboard paint or poly probably won't hold up to long you really need to protect and coat it, cover it with formica, tile , poly resin or a liquid epoxy.
I do this. Sort of. I put a sheet of white panel board on top of the bench. Easy to see parts and spilled powder. When it gets scratched up I will replace it.
This is one of my go to when I need a bullet proof coating , don't know how it will react with mdf. Ive applied this on chassis before and have had hard time removing it with a 4 inch angle grinder . POR-15® 2K Urethane
