Shipping Powder

Lets say I want to ship a pound or two of powder to someone. What's involved? Just go to the UPS Store and tell them I have a package with smokeless powder in it and pay the fee? Is it more trouble than it's worth?

It's up to you that all the required DOT labels are on the box. I'm not sure which one though. I know when you ship ammo, a diamond shaped symbol with the top half shaded out needs to be on the box. Call UPS they will tell you which symbol is required, and get ready to cough up 30 bucks to ship that 1 lb.

I believe that you need to have a Hazmat certification or ship through someone that does.

When I worked at Bass Pro, we wanted to ship a can of touch up spray paint to a customer, but could not due to the hazmat thing.

When I had my shop in NY I checked on becoming HazMat Endorsed. It was 900.00 for the instructional class. I figured I would never sell enough powder I had to ship to justify the cost.

I was also told by a distributor UPS can only have 70 lbs. on the truck at any one time but would do daily pickups and load all they had packed for shipment at one time. They have rules they don't know, charge overnight shipping on handguns due to internal thefts, charge extra for a signature on a firearm delivered to a business even though all packages going to a business must have a signature. Then they disregard other laws.

Get a piece of 105mm brass, and fill it with the powder, slam an ORM-D label on it and call it good ?

Yeah, good with me but somebody might call it an IED, LOL...
