Shooting in New Paltz

NEW PALTZ – One man was shot in New Paltz this morning.
Police reports indicate the incident occurred around 11 a.m. at 26 New Paltz Plaza. EMS crews were called in to attend to the wounded.

The suspect was described as being white, about five-feet, eight-inches tall, with a thin build.

NEW PALTZ – A father and son are reported dead in an apparent murder-suicide late Saturday morning.


Police reports indicate the incident occurred around 11 a.m. at 26 New Paltz Plaza. Police and EMS crews responded.

We are awaiting full details from Town of New Paltz Police, but reportedly, Jeremy Kaartine, 22, of Saugerties showed up for a meeting with his father, Andrew Kaartine, 58, at a diner in the plaza. The younger Kaartine shot his father, who was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

After a police chase and crash, Jeremy Kaartine shot himself. Police found him dead in his car.

I go to the the diner where it happened at minimum 4 times in any given week.

New Paltz definitely not the place you'd expect many shootings. Looks like this is the kid's facebook page though, and it says he's from Newburgh.. well, that explains it.

Eh.. not really, no.

I mean.. it's certainly more common for the large majority of people to be on social media platforms these days than not. Saying it's 'part of the equation' in this day and age seems to me akin to saying AIR is part of the equation.. all those criminals breathing air and all, surely that's the connection !

Self absorbed people who have never been disciplined and think their feelings are the most important and prove it by killing.
When I grew up we fought each other, didn't have social media to micro-absorbe the boohoo, any parent could try to reprimand you, in school you were spanked, with a stick.
We had guns at school during hunting season no one was shot. Again we fought each other. Bullies got theirs sooner or later.
