It's that time of the year again. This will be my second season playing in the Shootout for Soldiers (SFS) event in Canandaigua, NY and my first as a member of the planning committee. I am a retired Navy Senior Chief and posted here last year as well. Many of you donated towards this cause an I truly appreciate each and every one of you that did. It was very humbling to watch complete strangers want to give to our nations veterans.
Last year we raised over $69,000 during our event. Much of that money went to help the Rochester Veterans Outreach Center and the local chapter of Blue star Mothers. The rest went to assist national charities, such as the Gary Sinise Foundation, Team RWB and the Semper Fi Fund. This year our goal is to raise $100,000 for the Canandaigua event.
For those unfamiliar with the SFS event, it is a national event that is held on different dates throughout the summer in 12 different cities. Canandaigua is the smallest city to sponsor the event and yet we typically finish in the top 50% for total donations. The event uses lacrosse as a platform to get the community out and interacting with and supporting our veterans.
I have included the link below to donate to the charity and hope that many of you can donate a few dollars to our veterans. Every dollar counts so whether you donate $5, $10, $25, $50, $100 or more - it all adds up and truly makes a difference in our veterans lives and for the charities that support them. Thank you all for your support and know that your assistance means a lot to me and those that have worn the uniform of this great country.
