Shotgun question

Can someone ID this clip for me and tell me what purpose it serves? It seems to only mess up ejection and make loading tougher on the fingers.

This shotgun was given to me awhile ago and came like this. I rarely use it so it was never a problem. This weekend I shot it a bunch and now I want to remove this thing if it serves no good purpose (I can’t see how it possible could).

I have no idea, but is the bolt release button beneath it? If so is it possible that was installed so that the bolt always goes forward?

Think it's a shell catcher for shooting a semi for trap. It's so you don't hit the guy at the next station with your hulls.

Ok cool, if that’s what it is, it’s gone. Every time I fired, it stopped the shell from fully ejecting. Thankfully the birds were already receiving lead...

As said above its a shell catcher for auto loaders shooting trap. I run one on my 11-87. Its considered rude to let your ejected shells hit the guy on the next station, and heaven help you if its a Perazzi, Blazer, or Kreighoff.

I was out of the shotgun business for some time but kept seeing these big ass round rubber knobs on the bolt handles of the auto loaders at the local sports store ( Philipson's ).. It took me some time to figure it out, They're just packaging protection for shipping so bolt handles don't get crushed / damaged in the box.. Seams no one at the store has figured that out though, all the display models still wear them..

yep its a shell catcher .. not so much for keeping shells hitting the next guy in trap .. but more so for not having to pick them up off the ground to reload them .. some clubs have rules .. hulls on the ground now belong to the club .. not good for AA hulls ..

not rude in a CMP match shoot .. my mini14 was hittin the guy 3 stations down down from me .. sorry for the flying brass .. were used to it .. LOL ..
