I agree! Not to sound like an elitist, but a person with no skin in the game is always going to vote for whoever gives them the most free shit.
For example, if you don't own any property to pay property tax on, you really don't care if they go up. And let's be honest, a large chunk of the dem voters don't even pay their own rent.......

A thought experiment. Part of the problem is they specifically tax social security, but they don’t tax ALL government handouts. The “skin in the game” thing would hold a lot more weight if EVERYONE that received a handout got taxed on it. An example; take your brats 3 times a week for a month to the ER for ”COVID testing” when all they have is a cold, and the Medicaid bill is $125,000 for 12 visits (hell, i just made up the number cause nobody knows how much an ER really costs). Since it’s Medicaid, the .GOV pays the tab, which when I was working was called IMPUTED INCOME. Apply a 3% tax on that and now you are on the hook for $3750, which would quickly cull the herd trotting their brats with the sniffles into the ER. On the other hand,the guy getting the heart surgery for $125,000 would more cheerfully pay the $3750 for the privilege of staying alive. As a side benefit maybe some price transparency would filter into the medical industry.
