Bail Reform should answer your question. But you should elaborate on "criminals"... Convicted Felons?
Anyone that an official deems a criminal. For example, a car is stopped for speeding. The driver and or occupants are urban folk complete with saggy pants and gold chains listening to rap music. The license comes back clean with no warrants but due to a smell, the car is searched anyway and a revolver is found.
That’s my point. If we allow that to happen and not care, it then happens to us. How many people from out of state have been stopped and searched because the driver was acting suspicious or evasive to the officer’s questions according to the story and then a legal gun from Alabama was found to be in possession of the driver.
I love it when pro 2A people say Things like “he was a felon”, he served xyz years for previous crimes, etc. So what? They are not truly pro 2A if they are ok with free citizens (no longer incarcerated) having their rights violated, because a gun was found in the glove compartment, or in their nightstand next to their bed. If they are not using such gun in a crime according to the constitution they have the same 2 A rights that we “law abiding” people do.
Yes, and you have no duty to go through one.
I’m not talking about the many unconstitutional gun laws or their inefficacy. I’m speaking to the practical aspect of it. I do not believe that people who are violent and lack self control should have guns.
I can guarantee you that if I was ever arrested for felony assault for example or domestic violence or any other BS and after I did my years in prison, I would get a gun by either making one, buying one off of the back of someone’s truck, robbing someone for their gun when I spot them printing when they least expect it by bashing them over the head if I was desperate enough and all other avenues failed. I would feel bad about that one but I would do what I had to do. He would be compensated though by me giving him a thousand bucks for his gun and trouble.
So you see, not printing matters. You better keep me in jail because I’m going to get one regardless.
This is all hypothetical of course. I won’t be going to jail. Unless I had my rights violated of course.
Yeah but as shitty as a domestic abuser is, I’m not sure it warrants life in prison. It does mean they shouldn’t own a gun. We have NICS checks that make sure a buyer isn’t a criminal. It unfortunately doesn’t change whether they sold some weed or raped someone, and the distinction should matter, because IMO one is a crime and one isn’t. I’m not saying gun laws are the answer or that we need more legislation. I do think the background check into violent criminal activity is reasonable. There are many people who have committed violent crimes who would buy a gun from the gun store (if they could) but wouldn’t be willing to buy it off the street. There are different degrees of violent criminals.
I don’t really know what you’re saying or if you understand me. My wish is that all the decent, non criminally violent, American citizens can own all the cool guns, suppressors and “NFA” items they want while maintaining the right to defend themselves from the criminally violent. That’s really it. I’m never going to think someone who lacks restraint, empathy and has committed violent crimes should own a gun.rape, robbery, murder, severe assault.
