Shoulder holsters ... Like them ... School me.

Perhaps the wrong forum ... What size gun is best for a shoulder holster ?... Have the VP9 and will soon receive the VP9 Sk.... I also carry IWB the sig p320. ...
2 months ago I fell backwards climbing a gate ... was 3 ft off the ground and thought the gate was secure. It was not .. 100 lb gate and I hit the ground ... gate on top of me and I hit a triangle shaped stone about 4 inches high right above my wallet.(right hand side ).. Still have some pain. ... And more pain when I sit with in the car carrying the sig.... If driving for any amount of time ..
SO been thinking about perhaps a shoulder holster for when I am driving .
Any one have experience with one ... Likes and dislikes .. I know Bob Durbin would make me one up .
That said . Girlfriend is left handed ... Every handgun I own is on her permit and when I had a holster made up by Bob I always had a left and right made up . ... So I do have holsters for my left side to use ... It is just better right handed for me ...

Ask Vietnam area vet. He does two shields at a time.

I have gone to some gun training courses and they don’t like them because you cross draw and may point it at civilians. My dad did it on the job under cover and my father in law does it with his full sided pistols. I have never personally done it, but if you train well with it I think you gtg and can carry a larger gun more comfortably. Limited in when and what time of year this is useful though.

Also a gun carried shoulder is better than no gun carried because it hurts you. Get better.

I got my permit in ‘81 when I was young n stupid I thought you had to carry the biggest gun you could afford. So I bought a S&W 19 .357 mag with a 6” barrel. Not much choice besides a shoulder holster but I did like them. So much that even when I had a small revolver I still used 1.
But not anymore

Drawing while driving or sitting seems to be one advantage. There's vertical and horizontal. I do hate all the extra bra straps that go with them.

I think there is a shoulder holster to suit any size gun really. I even saw a custom kydex and nylon rig for a sub2000.

Also another big advantage is a shoulder holster keeps your gun off the deck when using a public restroom.

Have done them on occasion, not a perfect platform for me. Galco is best of breed, straps lay pretty flat and are comfy. I just couldn't get used to the way the gun lays up against my ribs with a bigger gun. Maybe again with a subcompact sized gun but IWB works better for me . . .

I've got a couple vertical shoulder rigs I mainly use while hunting but they're not perfect for easy access if I needed my heater uber fast because of how far off to the side they hang.

To go along with what FLA45fan said invest in the Galco. They have wide flat straps that evenly distribute the weight and the holster is made for a certain gun. The cheap nylon 1 size fits all suck!

Nylon holsters in general suck.

First, If you go the shoulder holster route invest in a good leather rig with a wide shoulder straps. A custom fit one is usually best. Like said above, the nylon holsters suck. Second, my prefrence is the style that carries horizontally. You have to reach in under your jacket or overshirt in a cross draw fasion and I find that the horizontal carry lines up with your hand better. They do take a little getting used to so wear it as often as possible with the gun you plan to carry in it.
P.S. Bob makes some nice holsters, he should be able to set you up .

I dabbled into the shoulder holster when I first got licensed. What I found was that they print a lot if the muzzle points behind you. The vertical ones that point muzzle down are better but they still print unless you are wearing a really baggy garment.

With what gun were you dabbling? I am under the impression that a G19 is stubby enough to prevent this. Certainly a Shield.
