As far as im concerned, ALL speech should be protected.....even a call to action.

There would be unintended consequences.
For example, when your kid is bleeding out for whatever reason, and I tell everyone that I've already called 911, I'm a medic, and I've got it handled.
And I've done none of those things. I wait for him to die, and then leave.

Calls to action and assumptions of duty aren't trivial speech.

Some officers understand that there very well may be consequences to people's words and deeds.

My grandfather used to say you're only as good as two things: Your word, and your credit.

As long as both of those are good, you can get out of any mess.

Condoning this would be no different than saying it’s legal for a person to rush into a crowded theater and claim a gunman is in the lobby shooting people. Or telling some cops on patrol in the mall that you just saw a kid kidnapped.

Your story confirms that some police will condone physical violence against a citizen expressing speech with which the officer disagrees.

All summer we watched entire departments *ordered* to condone violence because the perpetrators were expressing popular opinions.

Rule of law has all but ended in this country.
