I finished the article. The bulk of the comments below don't agree with him and prefer the "not one inch" approach.
People need to be realistic about what they will ever achieve. If anybody here thinks, short of some massive calamity to the US (e.g. civil war and new government or whatever), we'll ever be at the point where an average person can walk into a gun store and pick up a light machine gun, you're living squarely in fantasy land. That ship has sailed. It's never, ever going to happen. So you can either play the game by whatever rules exist now or take your ball and go home while everybody else plays. And you can sulk in righteous indignation, but it amounts to a hill of beans and won't accomplish a thing for you.
Though I think the 2nd does in fact ensure access to military grade arms (at least light arms, like machine guns and all variations of), IMO these are potentially winnable/codified rights:
- remove all the tax stamp nonsense for suppressors
- constitutional carry
- 30 round mags
- SBRs
AFAIK NRA supports these. The ship hasn't sailed on them. More court appointments and the right legal cases have the possibility of getting these in place. But even with 20 more years of Republican presidents and a 9:0 court you're never going to legalize a privately owned technical or walking around the grocery store in Manhattan with a bandolier and AR.

NRA can easily help us in NY and similar states. They can establish a legal defense fund for people who are not complying. Statutory non-compliance without any other crime. This is like 2-3 cases a year, but it will have a tremendous effect on fighting draconian bans.
Unfortunately NRA stance is "ENFORCE THE LAWS ON THE BOOKS". That's a good stance for Virginia, not for New York.

Fuck them. Fuck them out of business. GOA FPC and others do mountains better than ILA. As for competition well as others pointed out there are better groups for that as well,.... training.... guess what the NRA (as much as they tried to muscle other groups out) is not the only name in that game and have actually become just a rubber stamp compared to actually training classes

The NRA is no longer a 2nd Amendment organization. Hasn't been for a LONG time. They are a lobbying firm that spends approximately 60 cents of every dollar on "administrative costs" i.e. Wayne Lapierre's bloated salary and expenses. The NY Safe Act and the NRA's pathetic response to it, now being 6 years old, is living proof that they nor their Ponzi scheme of a State organization, NYSRPA, couldn't care less about NY firearms owners.
While GOA does good work on the National stage, GOA NY has been busy "cozying up" to the Tresmond Law Firm out of Buffalo. Many of you may remember Jim and Maximillian Tresmond and their "fight against the Safe Act" which fizzled out because it became rather apparent they didn't possess the assets to fight Big Brother. There back....pitching their wares on WYSL and at GOA NY meetings in Rochester suburb of Henrietta with the same old shtick.
These organizations are like social service agencies. You have to have needy victims in order to fundraise. Just as we'll never eliminate poverty, we'll never stamp out gun control because there has to be "victims" in order to create organizations and fund bloated salaries and expense accounts. NYS, NJ, Mass., Ct. are a few of the 50 States that have been thrown to the wolves in an effort to feed the financial beast. Our ONLY remedy will be SCOTUS review of cases, should they choose to grant them Cert and hand down rulings that comply with the Constitution.
The 2nd Amendment Foundation is the closest to the real deal as you can get with GOA running a close second on a national stage. in as far as administrating competitive shooting programs nationwide, I agree with the previous poster that stated the CMP is slowly but surely taking over those responsibilities and doing a much better job. My belief is that the CMP and USA Shooting can if properly funded and staffed take over 90% of the competitive shooting and coaching programs from the NRA and provide superior services.
The NRA does NOTHING for the firearms owners of NRA with the sole exception of cashing checks, processing credit card purchases, and sending out cheap Chinese made duffel bags to its members.

I've asked this many times! Since the Safe-Act passed in 2013 the balance of the SCOTUS was 4 Liberal Justices ( Sure to rule against any 2A case) And 4 Conservative Justices and 1 Swing vote (Kennedy) (Not really to sure of Roberts at times?) And yet people get all pissed when they don't take a case! Remember SCOTUS is the final ruling!

Alan Gura was very lucky, Heller could of gone the other way! And not established an individual right to bear arms! Where would we be today if he lost and the liberals ruled that the 2A was for service in a Militia?

Can anyone with a straight face name ONE anti-gun law passed in New York that was overturned by legal efforts spearheaded by the NRA and/or the NYSRPA ?
Should any of these law have been challenged before the SCOTUS in the passed few years? With the make-up of the Court, as I asked in post #44.
You do realize the challanges dont go straight to the SCOTUS they need to go up the courts. So what cases has the NRA brought to any NY court or even the Second Circuit?

I'm responding with the very FACT that NO laws that were passed were ever overturned in ANY Court (SCOTUS isn't the only Court this Country has) because of the "good works and due diligence " of the NRA and/or the NYSRPA. Not a single one. In fact, they flat out refused to support any efforts to overturn UnSafe other than a token attempt to run the case through the system, of which the last "update" given on their website was posted in October of 2015.
Here it is: October 19, 2015 Update: The 2nd Circuit Court upheld the core of the SAFE Act. Here is a copy of the decision.
The NRA and the NYSRPA is completely ineffective in EVERY aspect of 2nd Amendment support in NYS. It's as clear as day.
