A majority of my handguns are steel 1911s. I do have a few aluminum and polymer framed guns as well but, most of my guns weigh between 30 and 43 ounces unloaded.Remember when people used to complain about how heavy 1911s were and how they were terrible because of it? What ever happened to that? Now heavy guns are the bees knees it seems. That's why I never got into and still hate fads. If a gun is good it's good.
The legion caught my attention because I started building my own guns about a year ago and recently started building guns other than 1911s. The sig P320 is a modular gun and since my employe adopted the M17 as its primary sidearm I figured I had better get one to start practicing.
So back to how the legion caught my eye. It was billed as a polymer framed gun with the weight of a steel framed gun, interesting to say the least. I happened to come across one in a gun store in Oregon and got to hold it and the handling characteristics along with the sights and weight impressed me enough to buy one. while waiting for mine to arrive I decided to build a P320 XFive which is where we are today. Two guns that Are basically the same except one has a tungsten infused frame and weighs about 12 ounces more that the other.
I like the 320 and since it will be my issued sidearm in the future it is not leaving my stable anytime soon. I will be building a few more 320s namely the M17 and M18 variants but I may also do another XFive with the heavy frame just for grins.
