Sig 365XL first impressions

As promised in my other thread here are my first impressions of the Sig 365XL. This is my first subcompact gun so I wasn’t sure what to expect tbh. Out of the box the grip feels bigger in your hand than it looks. Having big hands I feel the grip needs a little more meat which I’ll talk about later. It comes with factory night sights which are nice and is optic ready. I have a Holosun 507k on standby. Mine is the newer generation of 365 where I don’t lose the rear sight when the optic is mounted.
I didn’t have a lot of range time so I was only able to get about 100-120 rounds down the pipe. Ammo was a mix of brass 115gr and aluminum case 124gr. It performed surprisingly well with the 115 and even with an awkward grip I was able to keep decent groups at 10yds (surprising even myself because I am rusty as hell with handguns). The 124gr was predictably snappier and I definitely felt the increase in recoil. The trigger is good but the reset is great. There’s a bit of take up where you hit the wall then a nice crisp break, the reset come on faster than I expected and was able to easily get some controlled pairs on the target. I felt it was a much better trigger than some of my other striker fired guns I.E. Glock & H&K
Out of the box the XL grip is good but I went ahead and bought the Wilson Combat grip module. I haven’t fired the gun since switching but the Wilson Combat has noticeably more aggressive stippling. It also seems a bit fatter which is what I was hoping for.
I’ll add to this thread once I get the sight mounted and some time to actually work with the gun on the range.

Glad you’re happy with it. I also ordered an extended mag release for mine and I love it. I ordered it off eBay and essentially it comes straight out of the grip module and doesn’t curve or drop off with the contour of the grip. I have small hands so it works great for me. A buddy has larger hands and he claims he can hit the factory mag without modifying his grip. I can now with the extended mag release.

Nice choice! It's the only SIG I own so far; eventually to plan to get a 320 of some flavor to customize.

I too picked up a Wilson Combat 365XL grip module - taking to range next week. I've been using a laser-stippled GrayGuns grip module (that cost 3x the Wilson one), but initial impressions on the WC are nice. I think I posted elsewhere here - most of the stippling is on the front and rear, not the sides, which helps prevents rubbing when carrying IWB/AIWB.

I had been using some plastic magazine base pads to give a little more pinky space (I think they were Tactical Development Group?), until two of them broke at the range last month. Totally my fault for ejecting empty mag onto a concrete floor. Decided to spend a little more and go with SIG P320 Magazine Base Pads for replacements - should be a little more sturdy and they feel nicer too.

I'm running a Holosun 507k-x2 in Green, really like it, though I'll likely get an EPS Carry eventually for that sweet enclosed emitter goodness. The sight does collect a decent amount of lint, dust and detritus. (I don't think I've ever used that word in a sentence before...)

One thing I STILL need to work on is I seem to ride the slide release with my right thumb - about half the time when the mag runs out the slide doesn't lock back.

If we could have more than 10 rounds (someday...) the Macro seems to be the new hotness. But the thought of buying all new mags....... ugggggggggghhhhhhhhhh

also, I just realized that the ZQI 124 grain ammo that I originally thought was aluminum case is actually steel case. The cases were shiny so must be nickel coating?
not sure but either way the gun didn’t care

I really like my BraDec kydex holster for my 365X with a 507k. The optic cut option on the holster is about perfect.

Cool, I think you’ll like it a lot. At the end of the day, well, it’s a holster. But it has options and works/fits great for a fair price. Adjustable angle, solid belt clip/loop options, great claw with two choices of heights for keeping that grip tucked in tight. And inexpensive, with multiple color options.

That’s all you can ask for. I bought one and it was so flimsy that I sat down and it flexed so much it hit my mag release and the mag popped out. It went back real fast.

Lately I've been carrying the 365XL Appendix in a JM Custom holster. I also have some BlackPoint Tactical IWB and OWB holsters, they do great work.

I'm tempted to grab a Streamlight TLR7-sub but then I'd have to buy new holsters... sigh...

I just ordered a WILSON COMBAT grip module. I am going to turn my P365 into a P365X because I ordered the XL grip module. Now I have to try to find XL 10 rounds mags. They seem to be sold out everywhere online.

Thanks for the link. Those look interesting for sure. I'm kind of a paranoid snob where I only run factory mags in my guns. I just wouldn't feel comfortable with these. It would sure save me a lot of money though.

Those use the factory Sig magazines. It’s just the floorplate.

I probably won't for a while, or I'll wait until I have holsters first since the lead time is so long. Most people like them, sounds like the attachment point on the 365XL rail isn't the most secure.

Those are the plastic basepads I'd been using for over a year until they broken on the concrete floor at the indoor range. My fault, I usually use the outdoor range but it was quite cold that day. Probably also didn't help the brittleness of the plastic.

So far the GrayGuns metal replacement basepads look and feel very stout though I haven't ejected them onto the concrete floor yet.

That appears to be an extension for the smaller frame. I ordered the XL frame to convert to an X model. I’m just going to spend the cash for factory mags anyhow. I don’t like to play with that stuff. Mags cause almost all failures.

I received the holster today and as stated, yeah, well it’s a holster. It does what it should and I’m happy with it. It fits and holds the gun well, conceals nicely, and is comfortable. Retention is just about right from the maker. I like that the mag release isn’t covered by the holster because I run an extended mag release and the holster ticks right below the mag release so no interference. I missed the section to order the wing so it didn’t come with it and I like that they offer extra clips and hardware for a really cheap price. I ordered the spare parts not that I ever expect to need them, but nice to have it and nice to know it’s offered. I don’t think many other do because they just want you to buy another holster.

Just hit all of your screws with a drop of LocTite and you should be good to run it. I like mine more every time I use it, which is nearly every single day. (Had Federal court jury duty this morning. No 365, no pocket knife, no nothin, and I triple checked all my pockets for live and spent rounds before I went inside! Grabbed my Sig as soon as I got home, though.)

I go to Canada every now and again and I feel naked. I do the same and check multiple times. I also have to check my vehicles to make sure my kids knives aren’t stashed in there.

The 365 series guns are great shooters. Here’s some of my stuff from last weekend from 15 yds. Green got rules. It shot this well with irons, too. 8” targets.
