EPPING - Sig Sauer Academy's firing ranges facing Route 101 have been shut down after a state police investigation found that bullets were falling onto the highway.
State police announced the range closure Monday following an investigation that began in April when Kristen Burke of Hampton reported that a bullet had struck her windshield while she was traveling westbound between Exits 7 and 8.
According to state police, detectives concluded that the round that hit Burke's car likely came from Sig Sauer, which is located just north of the area where it was struck.
State police said that while the investigation revealed that rounds being fired from the ranges at Sig Sauer were falling onto Route 101, they determined that the bullet that shattered Burke's windshield wasn't fired from a pistol at the time that she was passing through the area.

Darn. I had been thinking about trying to take one of their courses at some point. I guess that's on hold indefinitely. You'd think Sig Sauer of all places would have top of the line ranges to prevent this sort of thing from happening.

Ok, so, they determined that the round that struck her car *wasn't* from the range, but they're closing it anyway ?

This happened to my gun club. A guy found a bullet in his yard. He accused us. It was on the opposite side of our range. State Police cleared us in 2 minutes.
This could be another over reaction by hoplophobics.

This whole story stinks. THAT is not a recently fired bullet. Sounds like somebody is lying.

The round in the picture wasn't recently fired from the range. It was kicked up by another vehicle on the highway and struck the windshield of the complainant's vehicle. The State Police investigation determined that other rounds have left the range and landed on the highway, but there have no complaints of vehicles being impacted by rounds directly leaving the range.

Assuming the rounds flew to the road, and weren't carried there on some vehicle that had driven on the range and gotten it lodged in the tread or something.

Only frangible is allowed on their indoor range. Lead is allowed on all of the outdoor ranges.

The range is open! They sent word via Facebook (and i think i got an email too but cant seem to find it now) that classes will be held as scheduled, this was yesterday. I cant say Im surprised though, the back half of the property, the portion they call "Area 51" basically butts to 101. Iv taken a few of their defensive rifle courses and never needed frangible ammo, I always assumed that applied to the indoor classes. Sign up now while the facility is still there because we all know the antis will try and shut it down.

Here is the thing. Lets say the build the berms higher. Lets say it is just about impossible for rounds to "leave" the range.
You have neighbors to the left of you, neighbors to the right etc. They shoot on their property all the time.
They blame the ones with the deepest pockets.
