Very nice.
If those are inches I would say 2.6 inches that is a bit 1.2 MOA or better.
If you zero at 200 and want to know for sure I would do a 3 shot group minimum or five shot ideally.
What is your rifle set up?
Two shots do not make a group. That is a fairly good indication how your rifle and that load shoots though.
The most important shot for a hunting rifle is the cold bore shot. As long as you know where that bullet is going to impact group sizes really don't matter.Very true. Unfortunately, I was running low on time and had to hurry up to get ready for a whitewater rafting trip so I didn't get to shoot a few more. When I get back from my hunting trip I'll put a few more down range.
Should have shot w/out the 4 wheeler, since we're not gonna have one at our disposal next week
Ground was wet, and I'm a sissy. I didn't want to get soaked.Well ya know, mimic the conditions!
I sighted in my .308 this past weekend. My max range is 350 yards. I would say that this 2 shot "group" is pretty decent from 200 yards. (I shot some other similar groupings.)

A plain Jane stainless Remington 700 ADL with a 4-12x50 Leupold VX-R scope. I was shooting crouched down/over with a bipod that was resting on the back of a 4 wheeler. I was shooting off the shelf hunting ammo (Federal Premium 150gr Nosler Partition).

I'm aware of the ADLs shortcomings. It's their bottom level gun for a reason. I'd love to buy a new/better rifle, but it's not going to happen any time soon. As long as it shoots well enough to kill a deer from 100 yards it's fine by me. Whether it shoots within .5MOA or 3 MOA, it doesn't matter to me. That's still a dead deer/elk. This elk trip isn't going to happen again any time soon. I'm sure if I put a stronger scope and was laying prone (or shooting from an actual bench), the shots would be better. I was literally leaning over the back of the 4 wheeler with the crappy bipod resting between the rungs of the rack on the plastics. It was also the first time shooting this ammo.
Just as long as it kills it dead (I don't wanna chase it), but those are some excuses
I'm sure when you sight one up this week, that you'll definitely take your time and we won't be talking about some MOA, we'll be talking about how good that shit is gonna taste
The only difference with a adl and bdl is that the bdl has a hinged floor plate. The op wasn't shooting in the most stable position so I wouldn't blame the rifle plus it was only two shots.
What are the NY laws regarding loaning someone a weapon? I'd borrow a 338 Winmag or 338 Lapua for elk. You heading to Utah or Colorado? I went to college in Utah and spent a year at Hill AFB. Best elk in the world out there.
If I am expecting to take a doe at 100, I usually just go open iron with my 45-70. Most of the folks I know are also 100 yard lever action fans. I worry about glass at 200 and beyond. I only use crappy bipods. ;-) I am the biggest fan of those ebay Harris Bipods for $50 and that's what's on every rifle. I never saw the value in a $150 bipod. That's just excessive. Also why I don't go out and blow $3K on a Zeiss for hunting when a $400 Nikon Monarch will do.
I'm disappointed in the Remington ADL. I understand price points, but there is just no reason for them to manufacture something that's 2-3 MOA as a bolt. Even the R25 is 1 MOA and that's semi-automatic. But when you get home from hunting you should hold them to task - make them look at it, range it, and send it back to you with the paper from a 1 inch group. They do that on-site in Ilion. You work hard for your money, so make them work hard for your business. I held them to task on a 770 in 300 Winmag a year ago. A friend gave me one and I was seeing 1.5 MOA. Sent it back and said "no way Jose". They sent it back to me with a different barrel and 0.75 MOA. Still hate the injection molding stock; but it is what it is; amirite. ;-)
Heading to SW Colorado. There's no need for that much gun for elk. Nothing wrong with that much gun, but it's not really needed. A well placed premium round from a 308 is plenty. Plenty of people still use a .270 for elk. I'm not going to be shooting them from more than 300 or 350 yards (at most). Ideally, the shot will be from 100-150 yards. At 350 yards, the bullet will still have 1425 ft lb of energy. That should be plenty.
Once I get back, I'll actually sit down at a proper bench and shoot a 5 shot group from 100 yards. I'll bet you it will do right at 1 MOA when I do my part. It does have to go back for the trigger recall. I've always been too busy or it wasn't the right time of the year to send it back for that. If it doesn't hit 1MOA by the end of hunting season, I'll complain when I send it back for trigger work. 1.2 MOA from 200 yards with a crappy rest without really testing the ammo isn't too bad. The stock is right at home on such a cheap gun, that's for sure
Depending when you send it back, you might be without the firearm for 6 months or worse. They tried that bullshit with my XHR. Luckily my company does 8 figures a year business with Remington so I called a VP I know well and told him just go into the SAP system and flag the RMA for sending it back without repair and I went and bought a Timney 510 on sale on ebay for $130. Their excuse will be "military contracts get first O&E and Recalls". Like my money isn't the same shade of green?
When I go out to Utah to see my daughter, I bring my Remington Classic in 338 Winmag. Magnaported, Remington Police trigger, professionally floated. You wouldn't believe the deal I got on that - a buddy gave it to me for $500 (without glass) because he knows I collect 700 Classics. I went with a Monarch for the glass.
If you do end up getting something newer and nicer, I'll take this off your hands since I don't hunt and just wanna plink
I contacted Remington way back when they first did the recall. I was told that they would have the gun for 6 months. That's why I haven't sent it back yet, and was hoping that the wait time would be shorter. I'm not going to bother putting a nice trigger on this rifle. If I do decide to build a nice long range gun, it will be upgraded, that's for sure.
I don't give or sell away guns I'm like a firearms black hole.
I only sent my trigger assembly in. I replaced the triggers with Timney triggers and just sent the stock ones to Remington and they replaced them.I contacted Remington way back when they first did the recall.
