Just go to any 'popular function' whether it be a farmers market or a restaurant, and watch how many people are absorbed in their cell phones. I keep watching people around me and wonder? Do any of them know where the emergency exits are? Hell do they even know where the bathrooms are? If the SHTF, which way will you move. Will they panic and follow the herd?
I look at the crowd, watching, waiting, not panicking and making a informed decision on what to do, when to do it and move to cover or leave through the nearest exit.

Definitely... And in addition, I always look at it from a terrorist perspective, where would I be, lines of fire, etc. How they would move, set up and where'd they be. Take notice on anything or anyone looking out of place, acting inconsistent, etc.
I don't know... But yeah, I was amazed a bunch of years ago I had been on the subway in NYC for the first time in a while and was flabbergasted on how many heads were buried in the phones, with headphones on, most certainly noise cancelling, etc. Left me with little wonder who would be the first targets, whether for a simple robbery or worse!
What I really cannot understand is how the phones come out always when shit goes down, instead of a concert of bodies attacking the attacker, knowing numbers will overwhelm the miscreant! Like the subway scenarios seen recently. Anyways... All sheep and wet noodle spines!

I live between two small'ish towns, Camillus and Elbridge. The towns are both mostly crime free places. I grocery shop, do Home Depot runs, misc. errands and such in my hood, and think... no need to carry today. But inevitably, as I'm getting my wallet and looking for my damn keys lol, I end up tucking my little Max .380 into the watch pocket of my jeans. Although it's a relatively peaceful area, I always back my truck into parking spots, lock it when I get out, and scan the area as I proceed. It's become routine, a habit. Today more than ever people need to be aware of their surroundings. But it doesn't seem to be a "thing" for most folks.

Makes me think of movies and TV shows where they lock someone in a room in a house and the person just gives up. JUST KOOL-AID OUT, ffs.

One should also remember that just because you live in a peaceful or remote location today, it will not remain that way. Criminals are now on the lookout to setup their operations in these areas. SA aside, also lookout for strangers and people behaving strangely no matter where you live.
