The .243 Win is one of my fave calibers too. Smart, he uses single base powders which extend barrel life cuz they burn cooler and are thus much easier on barrel steel. Point number 2, recoil- the very low recoil of the .243 Win makes it just plain fun to shoot, esp when it's pretty much a ballistic twin of the .270 Win. I have long toyed with the idea of a fast-twist barrel for my Rem 700 .243 Win, for the heavy (105 gr+) bullets available for this chambering, the driving force being long range shooting.
