Small Arms Firing School April 21-22

Here it is. Our annual NY State Small Arms Firing School program and registration form. Small Arms Firing Schools were created by the act of Congress in 1907 as a part of National civilian marksmanship training. It is affiliated with the CMP and taking this course will meet one of the requirements to purchase M1 Garand or other firearms from the CMP. It's a two day course. First day classroom instructions and dry-firing. Second day is live fire. All dry-firing and live firing will be done with one on one instructions from competitive shooters.

I was expelled from LI firearms (thank God).
SAFS is older and more established then Appleseed. It's affiliated with the CMP and ran by members of NY state rifle team.
Some pictures from the past. We still shoot matches at Camp Smith. It's more civilian now days.

Not LIfirearms they too got bought out by the Canadians! Forums - Long Island Gun Club This forum started after that happen.

There are regular matches at Forbes in Colonie, NY.
Camp Smith in Peekskill, NY
There are also matches in Western NY. I will find a more info and post later.
If you are close to PA, New Holland has a nice range. Cherry Ridge in North Jersey.

Thank I'm north of Forbes in Saratoga County.

You live close to one of the best ranges in the Northeast. It's the only 1000 yard range in NY. We hold state championship there. There are also Long Range events, Palma and so on. People go there from all over New England. I have to drive 3 hours to Forbes.

Springwater used to do open CMP shoots i think it was close to 200 yrds .. open to all to come for practice .. its been a while and lost contact from the old site .. Ham_Chu would post them there; yes i want back in time .. LOL ..

what i can say for the guys there when i went they were all very nice to a new comer ..
first time i took the mini14 .. launched my brass on the guy 4 stations down from me LOL .. sorry about the brass .. its ok .. it happens .. used to it ..
next time took my mosin .. ok i got a bolt ?? arm up to RO .. instructions were more for semi auto on the commands . .. ok were good ..
then i got a rim lock / stove pipe with a live round .. arm up .. RO comes over .. man you did a good one .. had to find some pliers to get that round out LOL
lost that round on the shoot .. . i still had a good time ..

i'll have to go there clubsite now and see whats up .. LOL ..

my good friends wife just got a mosin .. time to teach her how to really hold a rifle with out hubby there LOL ..

honest .. when i got my buck with my mosin .. i was holding it like CMP shooters offhand .. not like a shot gun ..
hold it like that was weird at first .. but got used to it and man i like i now ..

Highpower rifle matches are run by the CMP and NRA independently of each other. It's a classic position shooting based on military qualification courses common to most countries. Standing (Offhand) position, Sitting or Kneeling position and Prone position. Riflemen don't carry benches. The idea is to learn how to shoot a rifle with varying degree of stability. If you learn that, you can shoot from whatever position the situation presents.
