Smith & Wesson Model 17-5 (k-22)

So I may, emphasis on MAY, have the opportunity to buy a S&W Model 17-5 .22 revolver in excellent condition. What are people's thoughts? If the opportunity actually does present itself should I do it? What would be a fair price? I should mention this would be purchased from almost family, not a stranger, but I don't know what, if anything, the handgun means to them. Looking for thoughts/opinions. Thanks.

I'm a big fan of Smith & Ruger revolvers. As far as the 17-5 goes I haven't seen any for sale locally, If I did find one I'd buy it if it was in the $500-$550 area, less would be better.

There are a couple of 17-5 revolvers on Gun Broker, one is $600 with a reserve, the other is $675. Both NO BIDS. The ones Goyabean had listed are the 1st generation which is why they are so high in price probably.

For $500 I'd be a happy camper.

They are only 6 rounds, not a fan of that!
In January I bought a smith 617, it has 10 rounds! That's AWESOME!
Find a 617.
I got a new one for $655

The Ruger Single-Six is a decent revolver and you can choose 22lr or swap the cylinder and shoot 22 magnum.

Well, I should say that I wasn't seeking this pistol out, it's just that the opportunity to purchase it may arise. It belonged to my girlfriend's deceased father. It's on her mom's permit now and she has indicated that she doesn't have any interest in keeping it. So it's really about having the opportunity to have a near mint smith. It would be nice if it were a 10 shot, but it is what it is. @HighlandLofts , I would LOVE a single six hunter model. It's on the list.

I didn't think this gun would fetch such a high price! I'd say if the price is right, go for it. Doesn't look like you'd loose any money on it if you were to sell it in the near future. Besides everyone could use a plinker or two!

Being it is a 17-5, and being it's a close personal exchange show her the gun broker pieces for $600 & $675 and there are no bids and then offer $500 for it.

S&W model 17-5's are going up in price. Only made for 2 years and being that it's the -5 it's a bit rare in the sense that the barrel was of the heavy target version, Not the pencil barrel and is Only 5" in length.
The Only K22 revolver to be made in that length. I have one and enjoy the hell out of shooting it.
If it is in excellent condition and you have the opportunity to purchase it, I would in a heartbeat.
