I refuse to potentially offer my information to some database willingly. A q-tip with acetone makes the barcode unreadable in seconds.

If "they" need to see my ID, I show them my Military ID, has my birth date printed, but no place to scan.

Pistol permit is the same.

Was in Idaho a while back and was carded at a local event while buying a beer. No need for that cuz I look older than @prambo. So I handed the Deputy my Onondaga County pistol permit took him awhile to figure it out.

Straight up ageism is what it is.

The last time I tried to buy some beer in a convenience store (I don't remember where it was now), the clerk asked for my ID. I said, "Seriously?", as I tugged on my full white beard, and the store lights reflected off my bald head.

She said, "Yes, - I have to ID everyone I think may be under 35".

I told her "Nice try. Now you can put that case back. I'm too old and tired to do that...".

And I never went back.. Fuck it.

How about double taxation?
Cigs., cost ~ $10 pak most of is tax then when they ring it up they tax the added tax! I don't smoke but asked the manager one time he said "that's NY law so we do it."

I’m 40 and was asked for Id at tioga do wns casino the other day. I said “ ummm ok” and the guy takes out some machine and scans it. I said what are you doing just read the birth date! He said this does thst for him. I won’t let that happen again. I don’t need a scanned record of where I am and what I’m doing. It’s getting ridiculous anymore with these id checks for people who are two decades over 21 or more.

I knew a guy had his credit card info swiped by the cashier at a bass pro down south, never knew till he got hit for 2k in fraudulent charges

MY STORY

Way back when there was a 22 shortage A new gun shop opened. I looked around ,they gave me a hat so I felt obliged to purchase some thing , So I Purchased a grossly over priced box of 550 rounds of 22 . I gave them my debit card and she runs it hands me recipe and says ,OH I need your drivers license so as I am reaching for it I ask why for debit card and she says NO store policy is need a copy for all ammo purchase , I said that's crazy it must be a misunderstanding check with the owner. She did and he said store policy , I said refund my money have not been back since. they are still in business but I have never seen the store open .

I could live with out the ammo, I was only trying to support a new gun store in our area, Once I learned of the copy of license for every ammo purchase I had no interest in supporting that buisness

As has been said, the minimum age for purchasing tobacco is now 21. (actually goes into effect on 11/13)

As for the scanner, it's a simple barcode scanner that reads the DOB from the 2D barcode on the back of your license and does the math for the clerk. The clerk also checks the DOB from the back of the ID against the printed DOB on the front of the ID to check for a forged document. They use them at gas stations and bars all over the place. The law doesn't require their use, but it provides for a defense if the document is scanned and the date checks out ok. The law authorizes the retailer to retain name, DOB, ID number, and ID expiration date.

Did they do this cuz they took away or didn't give them one of those calendar tear offs you USED to see which displays the date of which you have to be born by to be 21. Like today would say 11-14-1998 !!!

With all this going green can afford to print them on paper anymore and can't count on clerks' math skills to know any better so a BEEP is OK you buy tobacco or BOOP not old enough....no sale.

my son does not drive yet ( I know tell me about it!!!) but smokes so he had to get a non driver ID card before he got his permit. So hard to be young today!!!!!!!!!

I quit cold turkey after 2 packs a day for 40 years. A massive heart attack will do that.
