This is ok? Misleading at best and absolute lies at worst. 1639 has NOTHING to do with groceries or car tabs, but their signs sure make you think that, don’t they?
These people are getting $5 per signature and a $2 bonus if it passes.
It also has NOTHING to do with school safety. If it did, don’t you think I’d back it? Securing a school is literally my job.
For those of you who don't know what this law will do -
1. it classifies ALL semi automatic rifles (even fixed magazine 22s) as assault rifles.
2. raises the age to purchase one to 21
3. requires a training class at your cost within 5 years of purchase. There is no cap to the cost of the class and if it's been 6 years since your last one, tough, you have to take another. The class MUST be taken from a .gov agency or a "nationally recognized firearms organization." Your CPL doesn't count.
4. tacks on a $25 tax over and above purchase price and sales tax to every rifle sold. you're basically paying a tax to exercise a constitutional right.
5. requires a ten day waiting period for rifle purchases. again, even the Ruger 10/22 that is in millions of homes and is are an extremely useful tool to teach kids to shoot.
6. adds "safe storage" laws. the burden is on you to prove that your gun was locked up when it was stolen or you'll be held liable and it's a felony.
7. it compels the DOL to somehow develop a system that checks, annually, that all firearms owners are still legally eligible to own their guns... How much is THAT going to cost and how the heck is that going to work?????
The initiative is 30 pages and there is NOTHING in there about keeping schools safe, car tabs, or grocery taxes.
This is insanity.
ETA : I'm NOT advocating violence towards the paid signature gatherers. Do NOT kick over their stand, assault them, poor coffee on their papers, or anything else to harm them or their property. That is NOT good for the cause. That makes you look like people who DO need controlling.
